GOD-MADE ANGELS:
As the name implies, they are angels who were directly created by God and are the oldest type of angels.
PRIMORDIAL ANGELS:
Early universe angels, the oldest generations. God created them in order to lessen His solitude and have company while He brought life to the cosmos. Despite being the most ancient, they hardly have any political weight in the society of Heaven, as they are as sapient as a colony of siphonophores, with very limited roles and straightforward instincts.
THRONES (FIRST GENERATION): Thrones were the first angels created by God to help him traverse the cosmos faster. They were made from dark matter, quasar light and embryonal star gas. While their presence was useful to the Father, they sadly didn’t make great company due to their constant silence.
SERAPHIM (SECOND GENERATION): Seraphim were born from cosmic waves and the tempest of a gas planet. They sing eternally in praise of God, keeping Him company until He found the perfect spot to settle Heaven down.
EARTH-ALIGNED ANGELS:
While still God-made, Earth-aligned angels were created by the time God had settled Heaven in the solar system. Compared to their older counterparts, Earth-aligned angels sport a more humanoid appearance in relation to their duties on Earth.
DOMINIONS (THIRD GENERATION): Dominions are the first generation of Earth-aligned angels. They are high rank angels with the task to relay orders given by the Father to lesser ranks, acting as His administrators of sorts. They served as mentors for the archangels when God couldn’t tend to them, forming them in all kinds of disciplines. Due to them being made from minerals from the main asteroid belt, they resemble humanoids sculpted out of gemstones, in a way reflecting their rather strict, but wise nature. After the Father vanished, they became the new head of Heaven, ruling the kingdom with an iron fist. They were later felled by Gabriel and their tyrannical rule came to an end.
- Zadkiel (gemstone: sapphire): Leader of the Dominions and head of the Council.
- Camael (gemstone: garnet): Dominion of strength, overseer of the barracks of the Second Sphere.
- Chamuel (gemstone: rose quartz) : Dominion of serenity, overseer of the Gardens of the Second Sphere.
- Muriel (gemstone: amethyst): Dominion of Administration. Zadkiel’s chief assistant.
- Zagagael (gemstone: tiger’s eye): Dominion of messengers.
- Machiel (gemstone: obsidian): Dominion of Defense. Camael’s assistant.
- Barachiel (gemstone: red jasper): Dominion of the Elements.
- Cambiel (gemstone: labradorite): Dominion of Transformation.
- Hamaliel (gemstone: iris agate): Dominion of Birth and Harvest.
ARCHANGELS (FOURTH GENERATION): Archangels are representatives of humanity and most closely resemble humans, with a few differences. They were directly born from God’s essence, each embodying a particular aspect of His self. Once fully taught and grown, God reshaped them to look more human and sent them on missions to Earth to guide and help mankind. They are the youngest generation of angels that were directly created by the Father Himself.
Gabriel, Will of God:
Roles: Ambassador of Heaven (formerly). God’s messenger (formerly). Commander of Heaven (formerly). Judge of Hell (formerly). Head of the Kingdom of Heaven (currently).
Gabriel is the firstborn of the archangels. For eons, he served as a messenger spreading the word of God to prophets and other humans deemed crucial to help him achieve his mission. After the fall of mankind and the disappearance of the Father, he became dependent on the Council and ruthlessly followed their orders, serving as a pawn to tighten their rule. After rebelling and killing the Dominions, Gabriel and his brothers then became the new leaders of Heaven.
Michael, Strength of God:
Roles: Commander of Heaven (formerly). Lieutenant of Heaven (formerly). Head of the Kingdom of Heaven (currently).
Michael is the middle brother and the leader of the Heavenly army, thanks to his innate knowledge of strategy and passion for battle. For centuries, he was the one fighting for the protection of mankind and keeping demons in line. After the creation of the Council, he was demoted to Lieutenant and the role was given to his brother Gabriel, the Councilors finding his methods “unsatisfying”. He joined Gabriel in the leadership after the former’s insurrection and the fall of the Dominions.
Raphael, Love of God:
Roles: Patron of Lovers (formerly). Patron of the ill (formerly). Head of the Archives of Heaven (currently). Head of the Kingdom of Heaven (currently).
Raphael is the youngest of the archangels. As his name implies, his duty was to serve as a matchmaker for lovers and heal humans who were in dire need of a miracle. Love has always been a very strong emotion for Raphael, who was the most attached to humans and mourned their death. As the need for battle decreased, Raphael’s healing abilities were no longer needed, and thus he became an archivist to preserve both human and angelic history. After the fall of the Council, he joined his brothers to become part of the new leadership of Heaven.
HUMAN DERIVED ANGELS: Human derived angels are the souls of humans who were allowed passage into Heaven and were converted into angels. Some have more specific tasks and are under the command of the archangels.
VIRTUES (FIFTH GENERATION): As already established in-game, Virtues are human souls converted into angels, led by Gabriel. They can have diverse personalities and certain affinities depending on the individual. Some Virtues who wish to better perform certain tasks can make the choice of being converted into a higher rank, more specified angel, and be assigned to either Raphael or Michael depending on their new form. Many Virtues are however content in their current form and do not go through the process of altering their body.
PRINCIPALITIES (SIXTH GENERATION): Principalities are led by Raphael and are non-combative. They are historians, archivists, artists, gardeners, builders and so on. Their role is to maintain the appearance of Heaven and manage more administrative positions.
AUTHORITIES (SIXTH GENERATION): Authorities are one of the orders of angels who are under Michael’s command and serve as light infantry. Their duty is to patrol Hell and push back against demonic forces that step out of line. They are the first units deployed in order to disturb opposing armies during more heated battles.
CHERUBIM (SIXTH GENERATION): Cherubim are the heavy-hitters and obey Michael as well. They are deployed to fight against more formidable foes due to their superior strength. They are also very good at guarding, earning them the nickname of “Heaven’s watchdogs”.
HYBRIDS (TERMINATED): Hybrids were the result of the taboo union between a human derived angel and a mortal. There are no records of God-made angels having liaisons with humans, considering how reclusive they are.
DIMIDIUM SANGUINIS (SEVENTH GENERATION): Also nicknamed “the children of Raphael”, this particular generation of angels was never allowed to thrive and flourish, despite the archangel’s pleas to take care of them. Their mere existence went against the strict dogma of avoiding angelkind from intermingling too much with humans first and foremost, along with it came the issue with societal reintroduction: humans would find them too frightening and harm them, and they would be outcasts in Heaven, including potential health issues due to the drastic difference between their parents.
