Chapter Text

Crowley hated the winter. It wasn't just because the roads became icy or how the gloomy fog blanketed the city or even the holy holidays that approached. His main complaint was how goddamn cold it got. The serpentine demon was drowsy; anytime he stepped out of his front door, he lost the feeling in his limbs as they seemed to freeze.

In the beginning, it was god awful to get adjusted. He'd retreat back to Hell or in his snake form, he'd find somewhere to curl up and sleep away. It was a shame, he'd missed out on Aziraphale's new winter tea blends as he snoozed for months at a time. He'd miss those holidays and whenever he returned to his angel, he still had his gifts tucked away somewhere.

As for himself, he'd always get him a gift far before the cold set in and instruct him not to open it until Christmas.

Aziraphale would smile, obey, and thank him before lamenting how it was a shame he couldn't be there to see his reaction. Unless the angel was super excited, he'd save opening his gift for when Crowley emerged. Sometimes the demon would longingly look up at the sky and debate flying off to Alpha Centauri or any other nebulae he had created just to feel warmth.

But how could he forget that space was colder than winter on Earth?

What a sad turn of events.

The demon was ready for this winter, though. Thankful for the human creation of space heating, he could comfortably curl up in the bed of his apartment without having to worry. Aziraphale had his spare key and Crowley knew he'd come to check up on him from time to time. At first, he felt him in his slumber and would wake up to remnants of his scent which he found so very sweet. Over wine, his angel had come clean about his visits. He'd tend to his plants, sip tea and nibble on sweets in the other room, or make himself comfortable somewhere to read a good book. Aziraphale admitted it to be a result of missing Crowley or wanting to protect him.

Wasn't that adorable?

Now the time was upon him.

He announced his departure to his angel and left him with a kiss and his gift before he sped home in Mary. He apologized to his beloved car and gave her a pet as he discussed how they'd conquer the road as soon as he woke up and he swore it earned a purr in response. Heading up to his penthouse, the demon unlocked the door and stepped inside. The warmth washed over him and brought a cheeky grin to his pale face. Thank G— Satan for heating. His bed called to him as the black sheets were so soft and inviting. Letting his form fall away, he happily curled up in the middle of the bed and let nature take its course. Hours had passed and it was getting late into the night.

It seemed someone had other plans for the poor demon because suddenly, he was trembling. But his warm sheets! His heater! Curling tightly, Crowley tried to ignore the sudden chill and remain asleep yet it became unbearable. This wasn't good, what was going on? Weakly and begrudgingly, he slid from the bed and hissed as his floor was cold to the touch. Going over to his thermostat, he retook his regular form and sluggishly pressed the buttons.

Oh no. No, no, no, no..!!

His heater had broken! How on earth could this have happened?! Too incoherent to sputter the curses that formed in his sleepy tongue, he didn't know what to do. He could barely keep himself awake..! Aziraphale.. Yes, he needed Aziraphale..! But it was so late at night, why would he answer the phone at such an hour?! It seemed like there was only one thing he could do.

By some miracle, the demon managed to steer Mary and not crash on the way to the bookshop. He nearly dozed off at the wheel as the Bentley's heater delightfully warmed him up but he couldn't leave the old girl on for months. Finally, finally, he was at the angel's door. Clumsily fishing out his spare key from his pocket, he fumbled to get it open and practically burst through. It was unbearable, he was so exhausted that his form fell away on its own and he was left to slither as he searched for his angel. The small apartment was pleasantly warm with the smell of freshly baked bread. Crowley wondered what his angel had cooked tonight..

Aziraphale could sense something familiar as he snuggled beneath his comforter. Deep in his slumber, he failed to notice the sounds echoing in his flat and rolled over in bed. Crowley made his way to the bedroom, seeking his heat subconsciously as his instincts took over. Quietly, he slid up a leg of the bedpost and made his way under the covers. He could sense heat, Aziraphale's heat, and all was right with the world. Letting himself be thrust forward, he wrapped around his angel and finally returned to his much-needed slumber.

Aziraphale suddenly sat up and squirmed, hands pawing at the heaviness on him as he quickly turned on the light. Ripping back the covers in shock, his blue eyes widened at the patterned serpent locked around him.

"Crowley? Are you alright?" The angel asked, startled but also worried for his partner.

"..'Sssss cold, Angel." Crowley hissed, voice thick with drowsiness as he gently squeezed him in reassurance. Aziraphale asked no questions, he didn't want to keep the poor dear awake as he knew it must've been a struggle for him to get here. He wondered what happened to lead up to these events, but he'd have to ask later. It looks like Crowley will be nesting here for the next few months.

"..Well, goodnight then, dear." Covering the both of them up, the angel settled back in place, arms wrapped around his partner as he drifted off. Honestly, he preferred Crowley's hibernation to take this turn for all the years to come.
