Chapter Text
The man glared at himself in the mirror, using his wet hands to settle the green spiky hair. Shifting his glasses as he left the bathroom. Wandering down the hall to his classroom, the teacher noticed the out of place student roaming the halls. With no apparent hall pass, and the boy seemed to have no real drive to his own class. Zoro sighed, it was his free period and all he really wanted to get done was some grading. “Oi,” He called out and the young man jolted. As he suspected he had been caught. “Where are you supposed to be?” He asked as he approached.
“I have ASL right now,” Hiding his guilty stare downwards.
“Where's that?” Zoro was still learning the large highschool, it had about seven thousand students, which was bigger than his college. Honestly he would have taken a job at a smaller school but this one paid the best. Though he uses the excuse it's been five years teaching at the school. Besides, it's not like there was much money in teaching anyways. History was a good subject to reach students at their age. There was so much the young developing minds could learn.
“The Humanities building.” If Zoro wasn’t mistaken, that was a building or two down. He had no idea why the kid was in this hall of all places but it didn’t matter.
“Lead the way.” The teaching style he had adopted was fairly hands off, he hated going to the principal's office, he hated getting admins involved, and often with students like this security guards had friendships of sorts with the rugrats causing the security to drop them off at their class instead of taking them to the office. Or worse let them roam the halls. So instead of getting anyone involved he was free to walk him to his building. It wasn’t a big deal and hopefully the kid would not choose to do this again. How’d he even end up leaving without the teaching noticing. “You have a hall pass or something?”
Looking down at his guess, a freshman, the kid had a black hoodie on and some brown long hair. “Nah, my teacher never notices.” Instead of asking the kid why, he figured he would just talk to the teacher about it. The doors opened and now they were outside in the fall weather. For his thin dress shirt and undershirt it was cold. The ground was littered with the red leaves that this region carried. Their steps were audible as the trek to the next building over seemed slow. The sky was a white, maybe like it was going to snow soon.
The door opened and both of them climbed the stairs to the second floor, and Zoro realized he had never been in the Humanities building. It was warm, much warmer than the History building. Teachers' voices flooded the hall, and as they approached the door he could hear odd syllables which confused Zoro. What was this broken english? Was the teacher drunk?
The kid stopped before the doorway, and waited for Zoro to open the door. Zoro had a badge hanging on his lanyard that identified him as a teacher. All though the rest of the class heard the door squeak as he entered, and stared at the two at the door, the teacher did not stop writing on the board. His pale thin hands writing sentences and he stuttered out some sort of gibberish. “Oi.”
The kid behind him stepped around and knocked on the chalk board, drawing the blonde's attention. They looked awfully young to be a teacher, maybe they were a sub. The blue eyes widened in surprise at the two. “I found him wandering.” Zoro was still confused by what the teacher was doing not to notice the door squeak every time it opened.
The blonde glanced at the class, as if he was looking for something. He knew it was an ASL class but one of the kids began signing something instead of speaking to the teacher. “Is there some rule about only using ASL in the class?” Zoro asked low enough to the kid in front of him.
The blonde turned to his desk and grabbed the cellphone laying. Which was against school policy to have phones out in class, yet the man began typing as the boy spoke. “He’s deaf.”
