Chapter Text
Stiles is incredibly grateful for Brett taking his pain while they walked back to school in the middle of the night after washing the cum and dirt off in the lake. The wolf was able to distract the spark from the wounds on his side and the bruise on his face long enough for them to make it back to the food hall. Because by the time the newly mated pair showed up, not only was everyone back, but there’s food on the two clean tables left. With the pain relief, Stiles just needs to check in first and then he can eat something to heal himself.
Chris and Satomi seem to be doing a headcount with the way they’re buried in a clipboard and scanning the room. Glad to see his teacher made it back with minimal damage. “Oh good. Stiles, Brett, you’re here,” the principal heads their way. Poor woman looks exhausted. Everyone does. But it’s nice to see some smiles too. “Isaac told me what happened. Donovan and the mating. Congratulations by the way, didn’t think we’d see you back until the morning.”
“Thanks,” Brett says, squeezing the spark’s hand. “But you asked us to come back. So we agreed that’s pretty important to do.”
“Yeah,” Stiles agrees. “How can Mason and I help? I never got the chance to ask you what you meant.”
Satomi waves her hand, “please, go eat something and take a breath. You’ll need your strength and energy for that. You did good,” she cups the Alpha’s face. “I’m so proud of you both.”
“Is– are they all gone?” Stiles asks. Unsure if they’re able to breathe just yet. The spark feels a little guilty for having sex when there could have still been more monsters killing people.
Chris joins them, “with the help of your pack and the patrol I did of the school, all of the wendigos are dead.” The beast teacher pats the spark’s shoulder, “thanks to your magic, we were able to get all of the fallen back here. And the survivors too.”
A few younger students pop up behind Chris and slam into the spark. It’s the kids he had sealed in the front office.
“Thank you,” the girl says.
“You saved us,” one boy sniffles.
“That was so cool! You didn’t even touch it and it just tore apart!” The other boy beams, “you’re awesome!”
Stiles awkwardly, it’s three people, returns their embrace, “I’m so happy you’re safe.” They can’t be older than second or third graders. The spark squats to be eye level, “you were all so brave and found such a good hiding spot. You guys are awesome.”
“Thank you, the three children cheer, squeezing him tightly again.
“You’re welcome,” Stiles smiles as they run off. Standing back up, he catches his mate’s prideful look. “We’ll come find you in a few minutes,” the spark tells Ms. Ito.
“Thank you, boys.”
They turn towards the table of food and Stiles’ stomach growls angrily. He hasn’t eaten since this morning.
“Stiles!” Lori yells across the room, getting up from the floor where the pack is sitting. She runs for him and the spark meets her halfway. “I was so scared! One minute you were there and then you were just gone. We didn’t know what happened until Isaac got back and told us.”
Brett pokes her side, making her yelp and then growl. “What? No love for your brother? I was there too, you know,” the Alpha teases.
The she-wolf lets go of Stiles to playfully shove Brett, “ you weren’t the one that disappeared.” Lori sighs, “but of course I’m happy you’re okay. I’m really happy for you both.”
The Alpha pulls his sister into a hug and kisses the top of her head, “I’m gonna grab us something to eat. You got him?”
“Duh,” Lori rolls her eyes, throwing her arm over Stiles’ shoulder and guiding him back towards the pack.
Stiles slumps on the ground beside Isaac, resting his head on his best friend’s shoulder. “Thanks man,” the spark curls his arm around the wolf’s. There’s a long list of things he’s grateful for Isaac for, it’d take too long to cover at this point.
“What are best friends for?”
“One question though,” the spark looks up at the wolf just as Brett sits beside him with enough food for both of them. “Why was he soaked?”
Isaac starts laughing but it’s Brett that answers, “that asshole kept throwing me in the fucking water.” The Alpha hands him one of the sandwiches.
“Really?” The spark snickers, practically inhaling his food.
“Three times,” Isaac breathes through his laugh. Brett growls at him. “What? You were covered in blood. Didn’t think Stiles would want that on him!”
“I did not,” the spark agrees, drinking the offered juice in one go. With enough food in his system, Stiles quickly heals the wendigo bite on his side, the bruise on his face where Donovan punched him, and turns the busted cut into a scar like the others.
“Stiles, Mason, sorry to interrupt,” Satomi comes over with two more plates of food. She hands one to each spark, “eat up. You two are going to need your strength.” Ms. Ito sits on an empty chair, “what do you boys know about necromancy?”
Mason’s jaw drops. Brett starts choking on his food while Stiles stares at the meat and pasta on his plate. All carbs and protein. “It hasn’t been used much since the war except for special, extenuating circumstances.” Stiles twirls some spaghetti on his fork, understanding what’s being asked. “That it takes energy and expertise. Especially on this level.”
“This level?” Brett recovers, “hang on, are you suggesting that they can bring everyone back?”
“Would you rather call thirty student’s parents and tell them we failed to protect their kids?” Satomi asks, “or would it be better to tell them there was a horrible accident, but it’s been handled, fixed, and their children are alive and well?”
Stiles covers his mouth around a bite of chicken, “she’s right,” the spark swallows thickly. “I know how to do it.”
“You do? ” Mason stares in shock. Maybe amazement. Looking back at his untouched plate and Stiles’ almost cleared one, the other spark starts shoveling his food in his mouth. Clearly realizing what they’re about to do too.
“When I was twelve, my neighbor’s dog got hit by a car,” Stiles explains. “Dead on impact. I didn’t even realize what I was doing. Just that I wanted Mrs. Jones to stop being so upset and for her dog to breathe again. He came back to life perfectly fine. Like he’d never even been hit.”
“Pup, that’s amazing,” Brett smiles, kissing the spark’s temple.
“Can you do it again?” Satomi asks. Asking the silent question. If he could still do it, why didn't he bring his father back?
“I couldn’t with my dad because it was in his will not to. Not exactly considered an extenuating circumstance either. A school being attacked by creatures thought to no longer exist certainly seems plausible,” Stiles tells her and she offers a solemn nod. “But with Mason’s help, it’ll take no time at all.
“But I don’t know what I’m doing,” Mason counters.
“I just need you to join power with me for a minute. Give me your intentions.” Stiles sets down his empty plate and stands up, “think you can help me?”
Mason shoves the last bite of chicken in his mouth, handing his plate to Liam. “Let’s do this,” the other spark grins, eyes shining purple.
“Can I have everyone’s attention?” Satomi stands, addressing the room. “I need everyone to remain as quiet as possible for the next few minutes. We’re going to try and bring our fallen students and teachers back now.”
The room falls silent save for a few hushed voices. Brett gets to his feet, curling his fingers around the spark’s wrist. “You’ve got this, Gorgeous. I believe in you,” the Alpha places a soft kiss on Stiles’ mouth for luck.
“We all do,” Isaac agrees, nudging the spark’s calf.
Stiles smiles, nodding at his pack. He and Mason follow Satomi over by the door where the table cloths cover the dead bodies. Chris and a few other teachers carefully remove the cloths. It’s painful to see just how many died. Hearing it from Satomi is one thing, seeing is an entirely different matter.
“Whenever you’re ready,” Ms. Ito squeezes their shoulders, stepping back to give them space.
Taking a deep breath, Stiles squares his shoulders, eyes bleeding lilac. “Follow my lead,” he tells Mason, joining hands. “Use the pain you feel for them. Focus on them being healed. On them being alive again.”
“We got this,” Mason agrees, eyes glowing with his determination.
Raising their free hands, their magic seeps from their fingertips. Swirling and glowing with the intensity of two sparks’ magic. Much like the dragon statue- and the dog- the smoke moves faster and faster, full of the intention to bring back life. The purple swirls rush through the student’s and teacher’s noses, settling in perfectly.
Everyone holds their breath in anticipation.
Moments pass.
“Did we do it wrong?” Mason worries.
“Just give it a second,” Stiles assures the other spark.
As if his words summoned a reaction, one by one, the dead students inhale sharply. Wounds fully healed and life coursing through their veins again. Natasha, a sixth grader is the first to sit up, clutching her throat as she gasps for air. Her eyes glow purple for a moment before going back to their normal green. The room erupts in cheers.
“Well done, boys,” Satomi comes up behind them, other teachers checking in on those brought back to life. “You both should eat again, regain your strength and go rest. We’ll handle it from here.”
“Come on,” Brett’s arm finds its place around the spark’s shoulder. “Lori and Liam are getting you guys another plate but I’m sure you’d like a real shower. Not just a rinse from the lake.”
“But-” Stiles doesn’t want to leave the clean up to everyone else. He can help.
“You’ve done more than enough,” Satomi assures. “Let someone take care of you for once.”
Stiles looks at the principal gobsmacked. So the spark has a proclivity for taking care of others. Shouldn’t that be a good thing?
“I’m on it,” Brett smirks and before Stiles can even wonder what deviousness is behind that expression, the wolf scoops him up and throws him over shoulder.
The spark squawks, “hey! Put me down,” he giggles.
“No,” the Alpha pinches his ass, making the spark yelp, “I don’t think I will.” Brett laughs at the way he squirms in his mate’s grasp. The pack follows behind with amused looks. “We’ll see you in the morning, Satomi,” the Alpha calls over his other shoulder.
Halfway to their dorm room, Stiles notices some of the school has in fact already been cleaned up. “I can walk, you know,” he teases.
“I know,” his mate chuckles, heading up the second set of stairs.
“Where are we going?”
“To take a shower in my– well, now our room,” Brett says. “Isaac shouldn’t have to wait until we’re done to clean off. Besides-” the Alpha sets him down inside the room, “–I want a bit more time alone with you before we all pile up with the pack.”
Stiles smiles softly, wrapping his arms around his mate’s waist, “you’re so cute. Also, our room?” The spark cocks an eyebrow.
It’s finally Brett’s turn to look sheepish, “well, yeah, if you want that. We’re mated now, so we can share the room. Unless you’d rather stay with Isaac,” the Alpha adds. “That’d be okay too.”
The spark’s heart melts and his cheeks hurt from how hard he smiles. Just full on cheesing. “I’d love to share the room with you, Brett.”
His mate lets out a breath like he’d been holding it. “Good,” Brett brushes their noses together, “I love you, pup.”
“I love you too, Brett,” Stiles lifts his chin to seal their mouths together.
The last eight or nine hours have been hectic. Hell, the last six weeks have been hectic. Stiles misses his parents like crazy, but he will forever be grateful for the newfound family he gained in the pack. Coming to Devenford might have been under pretty shitty circumstances, but Stiles got a mate out of it. He got to reunite with Isaac and Liam and gain beautiful friendships with Mason and Lori. His father would be happy for him. Proud of him.
Stiles wouldn’t trade them for anything.
