He leaned down slightly, hand finding its way to the side of my face. I felt a clench in my gut at the sensation.
“I’ve been thinking.” He muttered, voice gruff and deep only for me. “My whole life has been spent chasing a girl who won’t even admit her passion for me. Makes me wonder what I’ve missed in its place.”
My heart strings felt a tug at the mention of her. Daisy, oh Daisy. I loved her dearly, but for some reason the idea of her in that moment felt wrong. I remained silent as he continued to speak.
“She… She refuses to say she never loved him. I assumed it was a lie, that she just wanted to protect his feelings. And yet, I feel as though she could never lie. Nick, do you believe in what she said? That she could love him and me at once?”
I felt my breath hitch. “Daisy could never lie.”
