Work Text:
Projects, meetings, and the longest work trip of your life left you exhausted. Bone weary from the flight and drive home, you breathed a sigh of relief as the cab pulled up to the house.
Groggily thanking the driver, you mustered the last bit of strength to shuffle in through the front door before collapsing onto the living room couch.
Connor was still wide awake as he heard the door close downstairs. Sitting up with a jolt, he called out to you only for no response.
Had you finally returned home to him? These past few weeks affected him more than he would admit. It has been so quiet and lonely without your warm smiles to greet him, and he missed you terribly after the first day you were gone.
Making his way quietly downstairs, he could see your sleeping form curled up on the couch as the large suitcase laid discarded to the side.
He smiled fondly as he heard your soft snores. As carefully as he could, your form was scooped up gently into his arms as Connor took you back to the bed he missed you in.
Laying by your side, Connor admired your soft state. The ghost of a smile covering your face as you nuzzled into him.
Even if you couldn’t hear him right now, Connor just wanted to tell you what ran through his mind.
”I love you, and am so relieved to have you back home. I missed you as soon as you were gone.”
A sleepy murmur of “Ratonhnhaké:ton…” from you left him breathless for a brief moment, realizing how much you missed him in return.
Kissing the top of your forehead and lips, Connor sighed as worry-free sleep lulled his eyes closed.
“Now it feels like home…”
By morning, you stirred awake to the warm sensation that surrounded you and not just from the blankets.
You knew you had returned home, but how did you get…?
Oh…that was the reason.
Looking down to the arms that held you in place, feeling the rise and fall of his chest, you smiled at Connor’s peaceful state.
You leaned up to kiss his cheek before nestling more into his touch.
“It feels good to be home too.”
