Snowballs

Summary:

Before he met Iruma, Purson never really liked snow or much anything related to potential frostbite. They were like tiny slabs of ice that melted all too soon and made your ears all too numb.

...He still didn't like snow, but now he's got Iruma with him. So that's a plus, or something.

YES I KNOW IT'S FEBRUARY

Work Text:

Purson tried to resist the surprisingly ironclad grip his boyfriend had on him, though his attempts proved futile. He slumped his body against Iruma, to at least get him to slow down. He wanted to do the exact opposite of going outside. In the cold. With snow.

School had just let out, and as most of the students flew home to enjoy actual warmth, Iruma wanted to stay behind and bask in the forsaken flakes.

"Purson-kun," Iruma retorted when he noticed the other's hesitance. "C'mon, it's snow," He tried to pull on his arm, to no avail.

"That's the problem."

Iruma sighed, letting go of the purple-haired demon. "I mean, if you really don't wanna go, we don't have to." He compromised, looking out the window in what just had to be targeted sorrow. Purson knew exactly what was happening; he'd seen the bear trap that was Iruma when they first started dating, and stepped into it willfully.

Now he had to pay the price.

"No, I want to. Let's go." Were the words that came out of Purson's mouth, but his thoughts were different. 'I do not want to. Let's stay here.'

Iruma lit up again, probably because he knew Purson had given into his demands. "Okay, then hurry up!" He grabbed ahold of Purson, grinning with sparkling eyes that warmed him up enough that he didn't even notice they'd finally gotten outside. Though that realization hit him soon enough-through a gust of freezing air.

The bluenette looked amazed, even though he'd seen snow several times. When he was in the human world, it usually meant everything would sink back into a frozen hell and his parents would force him to work even harder. Iruma tried to shake away those traumatic memories, since he was able to enjoy the snow while he was here. Here with all of his real family, friends, and very own boyfriend.

He sighed contently, donning a stupid grin. "So, we have this entire yard," Iruma beamed as Purson shivered. "What should we do first?"

'Leave.' "Whatever you wanna do." Purson tried to endure it, he really did. He could already feel his gloved hands getting cold, and in a desperate attempt started blowing on them. His breath was warm, but not nearly enough to do anything against the Netherworld's numbing temperatures and unforgiving flurries.

(Though the ground was covered in snow, it was only sprinkling. Andd the temperature was a single degree below freezing.)

"Do you think we could make snow angels?" Iruma asked as Purson stared at him awkwardly.

"..Snow devils?" He tried suggesting, not knowing what Iruma meant. The blue-haired boy froze, nodding profusely and repeating, "Snow devils!" in a confused tone.

Finding a soft spot of fluffy snow, Iruma plopped down on his back with his limbs extended and began making a snow angel. Purson looked at Iruma is awe, since he had no idea what he was doing.

"Iruma?" He spoke up, feeling tempted to join the human. "How're you doing that?"

He was mildly dumbstruck by the question, making a humming noise with his throat. "Just spread your arms and legs out, and then keep doing that-? You can think of it like flailing around back and forth and on your back."

"Interesting...say Iruma, where'd you learn this funny way to make snow devils? I mean, I'm not trying to condescend you or anything, I'm just saying. This is a little weird, since demons aren't typically set on doing manual labor for fun. Did you and Sullivan do this together? Oh, well I can only assume since you're related. It's like you're passing down your family traditions down to me already! Haha, either way, this isn't so bad." Purson continued happily.

Iruma felt butterflies at the proposition of 'passing down family traditions' but didn't say anything. He sat there making snow devils with Purson with a slightly flushed face as they both laughed about nothing in particular. Not long after they'd settled down in the snow, Iruma got an idea.

The blue-haired boy got up with an idiotic smile and huge, sparkling eyes that blinding everyone in an 8-mile-radius. He walked over to a suspicious Purson, who felt his boyfriend was up to something terrible. He eventually stood up as well, being intimidated by the sudden silence.

"Let's have a snowball fight."

"No," Purson had replied on instinct, sinking into the snow with embarrassment. He tried to act like he hadn't just shut down the other's idea immediately, "I mean, if you really want to—"

Iruma shook his head, giving Purson another understanding smile. He didn't know how the other did it, honestly. Going around and just understanding people? Unfathomable.

"I won't force you into anything, Purson. Don't worry!" He said, seeming content. The taller demon sighed in relief, not wanting to exert his frail body more than he already had.

Honestly.

That's probably why it hurt so much more when he got pelted in the back with a hunk of soft ice.

"Wh-?" He turned around, thinking someone had just come by, appearing out of thin air, hit them both magically, and then disappeared jut as quickly. Since Iruma surely hadn't hit him with a snowball right after he declined his advances.

They both had turned around slowly, since Iruma didn't know if Purson had realized his ultimate move yet. "Hey there, Purson. We're friends right? Dating, even." He spoke as the purple-haired demon was reaching down and balling up a chunk of snow. "Woah now, put that down- HEYYYYYY PURSON WE DON'T NEED TO FIGHT?!"

"Yes we do."

"Nuh-uh."

As Purson finished packing the snowball in his hands, he stared into Iruma's very soul before launching it at him. "This means war, you know." The human shouted once the snow hit him, giggling as he brushed his jacket off. "I guess it does, then."

The two engaged in a ruthless, unforgiving, and savage snowball fight. Purson's fingers even started to feel numb. It was truly a sight to behold, yet neither boys would admit defeat. Iruma's nose was red by the time they'd run out of snow around them, causing the domestic boyfriends to stare each other down.

The seriousness evaporated immediately once Iruma started laughing, blinding all those poor, poor demons with his loving expression and huge grin. Purson stood there, chewing on his tongue since he didn't know what to do or say.

Eventually, he started laughing too.

"We really beat ourselves up, didn't we?" The blue-haired boy beamed towards the other, causing him to close his eyes instinctively. Purson was endeared nonetheless, and smiled back just as brightly.

"Yeah, I guess so!"

(They were chucking light pellets of freshly fallen snow at each other with mild intensity in the single-degree-below-freezing weather.)
