It was a beautiful Autumn Sunday morning, too beautiful to be spent this way.
Agent Derek Morgan stepped out of the elevator with a resigned sigh. There should seriously be a law forbidding serial killers to strike during weekends. He then snorted at his own thoughts, yeah right, like they would obey that law.
JJ almost bumped into him, hugging a stack of files. The blonde didn’t even stop her pace when she said to Morgan, “Conference room in five, I gotta make a quick call.”
Nodding and yawning, Derek glanced at his watch, son of a bitch it’s only 6:05. Need coffee.
The tall, slender backside of the resident genius was exactly what he had expected when he walked into the office kitchen. If he needed coffee, then the kid must be on the verge of a mental breakdown right now. So it was really no wonder that he was practically emptying the sugar can into his coffee mug.
“Easy there tough guy. Have some coffee with your sugar.” He teased, smirking when realized he had said those exact same words years ago.
“I need something to wake me up,” Reid replied, lips curled up but eyes still fixated on the task at hand. He obviously remembered, well, eidetic memory and all.
Grabbing a mug, Derek’s grin widened, “Ooh, late night?”
“Very.” He replied. Stirring his coffee-flavored sugar water, Reid giggled.
“My man!” Derek laughed whole-heartedly as he took a big sip at his coffee, waiting for the young genius to say his next line - ‘not that kind of late night’ - and trying hard to remember what the hell he said all those years ago as a guess to what was keeping the young doctor up at night. It definitely had something to do with Star Trek…
But what he was expecting never came. Instead, Reid turned to look at him, coffee in hand, a smug smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. He raised his eyebrows and slowly blinked.
Derek narrowed his eyes. “What?”
The smiling young man blinked again, taking a sip at his cup.
Oh... Oh!
“Way to go Reid! My man, indeed.” Derek tapped his shoulder, grinning, “What’s her name?”
Spencer stifled a laugh, shaking his head. He was just about to answer when Hotch interrupted them with a stern nod, “Round table room, now. It’s a bad one.”
Both their expressions changed immediately. Time to get to work.
***
Hotch wasn’t exaggerating, in fact, he was downplaying it. This latest sick bastard had kidnapped and strangled three teenage girls in two short weeks, leaving the people of the small town in Iowa terrified. Nothing of this magnitude had ever happened in their short history.
The BAU was welcomed with open arms when they arrived. And the sheriff didn’t even flinch when Reid told him the killer was one of the locals, saying he suspected as much.
The investigation ran as usual. Inspecting the obduction and dump-sites, questioning family members and everyone in the victims’ lives, working the geographical profile while narrowing down the suspect pool, until Garcia was able to cross-check everything with the profile and finally thumb down the psycho who did this.
However, none of it mattered, because by the time they found the UnSub he had already killed his last victim. Then, after giving a disturbingly insane speech about how teenage girls were meant to stay young and beautiful forever, and stating that he was actually doing them a favor by ending their lives before they became ‘crazy bitches’, he achieved suicide by cop.
Six days of hard work down the drain, and the case couldn’t have ended on a worse note. The reminder that at least the sicko wouldn’t be able to hurt anyone else was only a small consolation when they boarded the jet back home on Friday night, their footsteps heavy with toil and contempt.
***
Hotch declared upon landing that they could all have the weekend off, that this time he would personally make sure they didn’t get called in again. And with a slight smile, he nodded his team goodnight.
Derek looked around at the tired faces of his teammates, they were all doing the same. It was clear no one wanted to be alone after such a bad case, they needed to be around each other right now. He then prompted, “A drink at O’keefe’s?”
Emily and JJ shrugged, Rossi gave an affirmative nod, and Reid bowed his head for a second as if in contemplation, then looked up and nodded as well.
When they arrived at the bar, Garcia was waiting for them at their usual booth, the table already packed with drinks. She greeted her sweethearts with a bright smile, “Hey guys, welcome back, come sit down and pick your drink, I ordered enough for everyone.”
“I’d say you ordered enough for the entire Bureau.” Emily teased, taking a beer, she sat down next to the bubbly blonde.
JJ and Rossi sat across from them, which left the other two men to sit at the two added chairs, with Morgan next to Emily and Reid next to Rossi.
The young genius laid his satchel at his feet, then frowned when he looked up and a cocktail was suddenly hanging in front of his face. He glanced from the dark fingers holding the tall glass to their owner. “What’s this?”
“Long Island iced tea.” Morgan tilted the glass forward, “Give it a try, I think you’ll like it.”
Spencer took the clear brown drink and carefully sniffed at it a few times before asking, “How much alcohol is in this?”
“Relax, Reid, it’s a cocktail, how much alcohol could there be?” Morgan coaxed.
The other four agents shared an amused glance.
Spencer shrugged, “Well, I guess not too much, the last time I had that mojito drink and it wasn’t so bad.”
“Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about! Cheers!” Grinning, Morgan reached forward with his beer to click at Spencer’s glass. Eyes never leaving the younger man, he took a big gulp.
“Cheers.” Spencer picked up his drink and sucked at the bendy straw. He had forgotten how thirsty he was until the chill liquid entered his mouth, so by the time he released the straw, he’d downed half the glass.
“My man!” Derek raised up one hand, wanting to high-five the young man.
Reid wrinkled his nose, confused. “Are you drunk already?”
“Don’t leave me hanging, kid.” Derek gave him a stare.
Rolling his eyes, Spencer gave his palm a light pat, “Yeah, I’m your man, very funny.”
“Hey, don’t say that.” Taking another sip with a smirk, Morgan winked, “You don’t want your girlfriend to get jealous.”
For a brief moment, all eyes were staring at the dark-skinned man, but not even a second later, Spencer was the one swimming in a sea of excited questions.
“What? Baby genius has a girlfriend?”
“Spence! Why didn’t you tell me?”
“She hot?”
The only one who didn’t ask a question was Rossi, though he did raise his eyebrows in a way that said he was impressed while gently patting the kid’s shoulder.
Reid answered no one, he was too busy murdering Morgan with his fiery glare.
“What? You didn’t tell me it was a secret!” The darker man shrugged, in no way trying to hide how much he was enjoying this.
“I didn’t tell you anything!” Reid seethed.
“Hello?” JJ waved her hands around dramatically. “People are dying of curiosity here!”
The rest of the table all nodded in synchronization. Spencer glanced around the four teammates, sighing and licking his lips, he pondered his response.
Which was why he didn’t notice Emily and Derek exchanging a knowing look.
-That’s why you tricked him into taking that strong drink?
-Oh yeah, you’re welcome.
Garcia couldn’t wait any longer, it was a small miracle she held it in for as long as she did. “Come on sugar plum, tell us about her! We won’t bite! Well maybe I’ll do a quick background check but I’m sure she’ll pass with flying colors!”
Spencer squinted his eyes at the happy blonde, her smile was so genuine he almost couldn’t bring himself to pop the romantic bubble she was in, but he also didn’t want to lie. He shook his head with a pout, “I don’t have a girlfriend, it was a misunderstanding on Morgan’s part.”
The table all sighed in disappointment. Some words of encouragement were sent his way but Reid wasn’t really listening anymore. The after-kick of the cocktail which he’d drunk too quickly was starting to take its effect.
“...” A gradual wave of mind-numbing dizziness hit him like the rising tide, overpowering him and getting stronger by the second.
The others were talking about how happy they were the summer’s finally over, so Morgan was the only one who noticed. “You alright there?”
Spencer blinked, slower than he’d ever done before. Shifting his head and trying hard to focus his eyes on the older agent, he hissed, “I’m gonna…look up how much alcohol is in a Long Island iced tea, and,”
Morgan bit his lips.
“Oh, never mind then.” Spencer shot him a scowl, though weak through drunken eyes, “You did that just to dig up gossip on me?”
Derek gave him a meaningful once-over. Leaning in, he whispered, “Why did you say you don’t have a girlfriend?”
“Because I don’t,” Reid answered right away, though fighting his tongue a little.
“Then what were you doing last Saturday night, you know, long night?” Suggestively, he cocked his eyebrows.
Reid huffed. “None of your business.”
“Oh, come on!” He leaned even closer, voice even lower, “Just tell me, I won’t tell anyone. Promise.”
The younger man tipped his head, sizing his friend up and down through heavy eyelids. He leaned toward him, crooking one index finger to draw him in closer, Spencer asked mysteriously, “You really wanna know?”
Derek nodded like an eager-for-knowledge child.
Quirking up the corner of his mouth, Spencer’s face was flushed pink with alcohol and only inches away from Derek’s when he whispered, “Are you sure you can handle the answer?” His breath was hot and weirdly seductive, just barely brushing through the older man’s ear.
Derek stiffened, slowly widening his eyes at the usually innocent-looking young genius - who was now smirking like a mischievous little minx. He dropped his jaw, stunned and speechless.
Wildly satisfied at his reaction, Spencer chuckled, his eyes twinkling a wicked glint as he picked up his drink again.
Derek leaned back into his chair, eyes still glued on the young man. His heart was racing as he sipped at his beer in quiet contemplation.
What the hell was that?
***
The change was subtle but it was there, and it was real.
As he started looking at Reid with a brand new light, all those little things that Derek never gave a second thought to before, now suddenly held a much deeper meaning.
The way he tucks his long curls behind his ear when they get in his face, the way he mumbles silently when he reads, the way his hands dance when he gets excited while explaining something, and the way he bites his lips when he thinks.
Oh. How he fucking bites his lips.
Derek had never thought of the kid as sexual before, although come to think of it now, he really had no idea why. Reid was obviously attractive, with big doe eyes, high cheekbones, a delicate little nose, and a jawline to die for; add that to the shy, sweet smile and that head of luscious locks - and that’s just counting his appearance. Not to mention that genius brain of his which a lot of people would find more than appealing. So he must have his fair share of suitors, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Reid would at least find one of those suitors attractive enough to, well, maybe not date, but use as someone to warm his bed? Sure.
But he hid himself so well, underneath all that awkward bookishness, all those layers of cardigans and old man vests. He managed to fool everyone into thinking he was this innocent, inexperienced little virgin who didn’t know the first thing about sex unless it was printed on some text-book.
However, the man in the bar that night, the one who whispered into his ear and did so with a smile as enticing as the one he had? That man was no virgin. No way in hell.
Two months. That’s how long Derek had spent in quiet frustration, constantly battling an internal war with himself. He couldn’t get Reid out of his mind. It didn’t help that they had to work closely together every day and almost always shared a room when away on cases. On multiple occasions and with alarmingly increasing frequency, he found himself staring a little too long at the young genius. His deep eyes, his diamond-shaped mouth, his insanely long legs, and that fucking tongue that just had to lick his fucking lips every five fucking seconds.
Derek was going stir-crazy.

In the dimly lit bedroom of his house, agent Morgan was sitting on his bed, absently flipping through the channels on the TV, and thinking about at least three things at the same time.
The case they just closed. It was worse than Iowa. Two school shootings, multiple UnSubs, and dozens of dead kids. The bodies of those kids, just lying lifelessly on the school football field, arranged to look like some kind of cult-related symbol. He almost puked when he saw their once young and alive limbs twisted inhumanly just to fit into the sickening fantasies of the shooters.
Reid. How even in the presence of such absolute horror, tried to talk to the UnSubs. Their leader - a fifteen-year-old boy - looked Reid in the eye and smiled, “Sorry agent, but there’s no way we’re walking outta here, we have a higher calling, and it’s time we answered to it.” Then with a snap of the fingers, he and his partners shot themselves in the neck.
Everyone was quiet the whole flight home. The kid, in particular, was even quieter than usual. He spent the first half hour staring out the window, the next staring at his hand. Then, twenty minutes before landing, Derek saw him take out his phone and type. A few minutes later, his phone buzzed, he looked at it and typed some more. He was texting someone, Derek thought, maybe his not-girlfriend.
So it didn’t surprise him when Reid declined the team’s invitation to go get drinks, saying he wasn’t feeling well and went home. Derek had offered to give him a ride, but the kid just smiled a sad smile and shook his head. Derek wanted to insist, but then he thought of the texting he witnessed, bit his teeth, and let Reid go.
Derek and the rest of the team went to a club after that, where he spent the next two hours drinking and dancing, flirting with everyone who showed an interest in him - which was a lot - but by the end of the night, he didn’t go home with anyone. He wasn’t in the mood, not even the slightest.
And now here he was. Half drunk, on his bed, doing the same thing he’d been doing for two damn months. Just OBSESSING over Reid.
He glanced at his watch. 11:45 pm.
It’s late, too late. He stood up. Too late to visit anyone, not even your good friend. He walked past his bedroom door. Not even your best friend, at least not without first telling them you’re coming. He grabbed his keys from the bowl by the front door. This is a mistake. He got into his car. What if I see something I’m not prepared for? He started the engine. Fuck it, I’m going.
He had an excuse all worked out on the drive over. He’ll just say he was thinking about the case and couldn’t sleep, and that he was worried about Reid being alone too. Whatever. The kid had no clue Derek saw him texting anyway, so he could just pretend like he didn’t know any better. And if he interrupted something, then, well. Good.
Good? What? He frowned, gripping the steering wheel.
Come on Derek Morgan, who are you kidding? A voice in his head said.
Fine. I want him, I’ll admit it. Another voice answered.
Good for you, but have you thought this through? What if you bump into his girlfriend? The first voice asked.
He doesn’t have a girlfriend. The second voice stated.
Well, maybe not a girlfriend, but it’s definitely someone, and it’s definitely not platonic. The first voice argued.
Shut up. The second voice snapped.

Knocking on the wooden door three times, Derek took a long and deep breath. Whatever was behind this door, he needed to know. He had to know.
The door opened quickly, as if someone was expecting him, but the person who opened it was not the person Derek was expecting.
“Yes?” A fairly attractive African American man stood before him - naked except in his boxer briefs, displaying his chiseled chest and muscled biceps - and he was looking incredulously at Derek, to which the agent answered with a struck-by-lightning death glare. YOU’RE surprised? I’m having a fucking heart attack here!
“Uh…” Eyes impossibly wide, jaw open, Derek tried to focus on the man’s face while struggling for words, “...Is Reid home?”
“Oh, he’s in the shower.” The man nodded with a smile, “Sorry, I thought you were the pizza.” He shifted to let the agent in, then closed the door behind him and stretched out a hand, “I’m Eric.”
Derek stared dumbly at his hand for a second, then reluctantly, he reached out and shook it, “Derek.”
The awkward handshake lasted maybe a half-second before Derek abruptly broke it. He was clenching his jaw and wondering what the fuck was he thinking coming here when he heard Eric’s smirking voice, “Oh… You’re Derek.” The agent looked at him with a frown, which didn’t seem to bother Eric at all as he slowly gave Derek a once-over, nodding with an obnoxious grin. “Yeah, I see it.”
Who the fuck is this guy? Derek was just about to snap when Eric prompted, “Have a seat, I’ll go put on some clothes.”
Yeah, you do that. Derek bit his teeth hard while walking to the couch. So no girlfriend. Well, he didn’t lie. That’s great. Fantastic. Yupty-oopty-fucking-doo!
He didn’t sit down, instead, he leaned on the couch backboard and crossed his arms, which gave him the perfect angle to peek into the bedroom and the bathroom door in it.
Eric quickly put on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, then he gently knocked on the bathroom door, saying with a surprisingly upbeat voice, “Hey Spencer, Derek’s here.”
The water stopped and Reid’s muffled voice came through, “Very funny, I told you to cut it out Eric. It was an accident.”
Eric chuckled, leaning on the doorframe with one foot crooked. He teased in a sarcastic tone, “Yeah, something that happens multiple times every time, that’s the definition of an accident. Absolutely.”
The genius went silent for a few seconds, then he raised his voice. “Is your pizza here yet? …Actually, you know what, I’ll order you a new one, you can eat it at home.”
“Aww…Kicking a guy out right after you’re done with him? Cold.” Eric tucked his thumb in his jeans pocket, looking all casual and not the least upset. In fact, his grin got even wider when he noticed Derek’s gaze. Then, he gave him a wink.
Derek rolled his eyes.
The bathroom door opened and Reid stepped out of the steam, hair dripping and body all but glistening with shimmer, he was wearing nothing but a bath towel around his slim waist. Derek couldn’t help but gawk.
Reid didn’t see him, he was looking at Eric while walking toward his bed, “It’s late, go home, I have work tomorrow.”
No we don’t, he’s lying. Derek’s lips curled up. He really does want to get rid of this guy. Good.
“All right, I’ll go. Good night Spencer.” Eric grabbed the young genius’s wrist, leaning in, “A kiss goodbye?”
Derek tensed.
“What’s the matter with you today?” To his delight, Spencer tilted his head away from the thick-skinned man, causing the kiss to land on his cheek, “Now go, I have to dry my hair.”
Eric retrieved back with a smirk, “You might wanna hold off on that, I told you, Derek’s here.”
He wiggled his eyebrows in the agent’s direction, and Derek watched with narrowed eyes as Reid’s whole body immediately stiffened. Then, it was like watching a slow-motioned video when he slowly turned, inch by inch, first his head, then his shoulder, as if he was trying to delay the process of facing the inevitable reality for as long as possible.
Finally, their eyes met across the room.
Time froze. If Reid’s face was flushed by the hot shower before, it wasn’t anymore. His skin went pale faster than humanly possible as he stared blankly into Derek’s deep brown eyes, all of the big words and the huge vocabulary he possessed in that genius brain of his at a complete loss.
Eric glanced between them a few times before sighing with a smirk, “I wish I could stay, I really do, but I’m afraid he’s gonna punch me in the face if I don’t leave, like right now.” Shaking his head and putting on his jacket, Eric walked toward the bedroom door with a wave and a flirty smile, “Bye Spencer, call me if things don’t work out.”
That earned him a glare from Derek, but Eric just shrugged at him and seconds later, he was gone.
Slowly, Derek refocused his gaze on the still-frozen young man. Considering, he chose his words carefully, “Who is he?”
Averting his eyes, Spencer swallowed a lump in his throat, voice lower than a whisper, “...A friend.”
“...With benefits?” Derek raised his brow.
Hugging himself, the young genius lowered his head, jaw visibly tightening.
Derek straightened his stance, but in a non-threatening way. He said with a soft voice, “You could’ve told me you swing both ways.”
Spencer let out a short scoff, “What good would that have done?”
“Well, that depends.” Slowly, he walked forward, stopping when he was within arm’s length of the stiff young man, “What was all that ‘accident’ about? How does he know my name?”
Spencer’s head bowed even lower, Derek watched his shoulders tremor, his face and ear blushing a deep pink. The darker man smiled, he had his answer.
“You know, I couldn’t help but notice how he and I kind of look alike. Is that why you chose him?” Derek breathed out a whisper, “…When you sleep with him, Spencer, do you pretend he’s me and say my name instead of his?”
Huge, terrified eyes snapped up, lips quivering, he looked like a deer in headlights. Derek’s smile widened.
“Yeah, like I said,” hands cupping the flushed face, he leaned in, close enough for their lips to touch. “You should’ve told me.”
***
Waking up in Reid’s bed to the fresh smell of coffee brewing, what a wild dream.
Huh, guess I should start calling him Spencer now.
Stretching his limbs against the comfortable bed sheets, Derek had the biggest smile on his face. He laid there quietly for a few minutes, recalling the events of the previous night.
After the first kiss, everything just happened smoothly. It felt natural. It was natural. Like they were always supposed to be touching each other, sucking each other, moaning each other’s name, and falling asleep in each other’s arms.
Though Spencer - the insecure creature that he is - did repeatedly ask Derek if he was sure about this, would he wake up in the morning and regret everything, or even worse, would he sneak out in the middle of the night. Derek just swallowed every question with a claiming kiss and reassured him again and again, with every thrust, every tug of the hair, every bite at his creamy neck.
Finally, after screaming Derek’s name while spurting cum all over his stomach, Spencer let his guard down. He wrapped both hands around the darker man’s shoulders, watery eyes sinking into Derek’s heated ones, he panted out a confession, “...I have wanted you for so long, please tell me that this isn’t a dream.”
That tipped Derek over the edge. He kissed Spencer deeply after coming hard inside him, promising something he’d never said to anyone else before, “I will, baby boy, and you’ll see what a great boyfriend I could be.”
Spencer blessed him with the happiest smile he’d ever seen.
***
A shuffling sound coming from the kitchen broke his reminiscing. Derek smiled with a satisfied sigh. Time to say good morning to my boyfriend.
He jumped off the bed with a happy beat on his feet, and scavenged his jeans and undershirt from the floor. He couldn’t find his sweater, but he decided to just skip it. The weather was not that chilly anyway, it was only December the 3rd.
Walking into the living room seconds later, Derek grinned at the backside of the young man he had just spent the night with. There it was. His lavender sweater, draping so comfortably on his boyfriend’s lithe frame. It looked huge on him, but it also looked right. Derek crossed his arms and paused for a few seconds to admire the young genius. This was the first time he got a chance to witness what Spencer did as a morning routine. Not at the office, but in his own home. Derek’s grin widened. He’s doing it again.
“Easy there, baby. Have some coffee with your sugar.” Standing behind the lithe body, he closed his arms around the slim waist.
Spencer giggled, shoulders twitching, “I need something to wake me up.”
“Hmm…late night?” Derek nuzzled his nose in the young man’s long curls.
“...Very.” Leaning back into the touch, Spencer said in a low, almost sultry tone.
“Oh yeah, my man.” Derek laughed, landing a teasing kiss on the pink, adorable cheek.
Spencer chuckled, turning around to encircle the darker man’s neck with his fingers, he pulled him in for a real kiss.
“Yes, I am.”
