Chapter 1: Engulfed By the Void.

Chapter Text

....Open your eyes. Open your eyes and see what your pride has wrought. A voice chides, tone seeming to vibrate the very air around me. "Who're... Who's there?" I mumble and strain against my bindings. A clawed hand grips my chin, tilting my face up. Ais'gaig, demilich. Your world will be mine, but I need a host to coelesce properly. And you shall do just fine. their voice growls, and I finally open my eyes, staring in the face of a void genasi, their teeth bared. The smell of death hangs around them, petrichor peppering their breath. "...And what makes you think that I'll let you in?" I bare my teeth in return, tugging against the bindings again. Because, you have no choice. It's either that, or I kill you and take your body as mine own that way, instead. Ais'gaig chuckles sinisterly, their clawtips dragging against my jawline.

I hiss softly, looking down and baring my teeth again. ...Cute. The mortal is trying to scare me. they muse and clutch my chin within their claws. "...Fine... Since it seems I don't have a choice in the matter." I sigh, giving a final, weak tug against my bindings. There's a good girl. Ais'gaig smirks, their form beginning to mimic me, and a cold wind chills me to the bone.

...Oh, this form fits better than I was expecting. Hm hm...~ Ais'gaig chuckles. "...Thanks, I guess." I rub my wrists gently, the bindings having fallen with Ais'gaig's joining. A collection of crystalline moths flutter around an old lantern resting on the ground, and Ais'gaig chides, Pick up the lantern. We'll be using it soon. I sigh and pick it up, securing the metal construct on my back. The moths retreat within and go silent.

"So now what? You've got your host, but I'm still in control." I remark, pushing my glasses back up to where they belong. Think of me as... a symbiote. I'm merely a passenger, but you get the bonus of my powers. Ais'gaig explains. "...I see." Sighing, I open the door and... I'm back in my shop? Portals are a lovely thing. they chortle. I grunt and take a seat in one of the booths, running my fingers through my hair as I exhale softly. A soft creaking slips from the lantern, and a small collection of the moths flitter out. And so it begins...~ they murr and fall silent. The moths land on each of the tables, their crystalline wings glinting in the starlight from outside. "...May as well get some rest..." I sigh, standing up and heading upstairs.

Crawling into bed, I curl up on top of the covers and quickly pass out, without disrobing. Sleep claims me, visions of crystals and lanterns, ancient ships breaking the seas of my mind.
