Don't Let Me In (I don't know what I'd do)

Summary:

Kiryu is met with a hauntingly familiar face while driving for Nagasu taxi. Kiryu feels he is literally haunted by his past as people he knew, no matter how impossible it seems, keep reappearing in his life.

Tachibana lives au set somewhere around yakuza 5. I just wanted an excuse to write older Tachibana and Taxi Driver Kiryu tbh.

Notes:

Tachibana and Kiryu are both written as trans men in this fic! I use masculine descriptors for their genitals to reflect this. Also, I describe Kiryu having a panic attack in quite graphic detail, so please be aware of that!

Title is inspired by Roses are Falling by Orville Peck :)

Work Text:

Life in Fukuoka was starting to settle into an uneventful blur for Kiryu, which he supposed was better than the life he knew previously. As long as he was away from his kids in Okinawa, they’d be safe, he reminded himself. They’d have a future and they wouldn’t end up like him. Haruka was in Sotenbori becoming an idol. Her future already shining brighter than anything Kiryu could have imagined for her with him as her guardian. He wanted nothing more than to head back to Ryukyu, but he couldn’t just destroy the life Haruka was trying to build for herself like that. So he stayed here in Nagasugai, driving for Nagasu taxi while the days all bled into the same incomprehensible smudge on Kiryu’s mind. Nothing really seemed to matter anymore and that dangerous line of thought had led to the normally careful and pragmatic-thinking Kiryu to become a bit reckless as of late. He was taking chances he normally wouldn’t. His brief stint of street racing wasn’t his proudest moment (and it was for the greater good anyways.)

Lately though, strange things were starting to occur, a pattern Kiryu dreaded, but found he couldn’t ignore. Just like old times. The thought made him sick to his stomach. He couldn’t let them drag him back there. Not now. Not when he’d just found some semblance of normalcy. Kiryu was dragged out of his anxiety spiral by the sound of the cab door opening.

“Thank you for stopping. I understand it’s quite late.” The familiarity in his patron’s smooth tone had Kiryu glancing into the rearview mirror, blood running cold as his eyes seemed to confirm his suspicions. He had to be going crazy. Figures of his past kept popping up like ghosts and he had to wonder if the image of Tachibana in his backseat was the real deal. The man’s eyes flitted up to meet with his, a concerned expression on his face. “Has it been a long night for you?” Kiryu blinked hard, clenching and unclenching his hands on the steering wheel, struggling to even formulate a response to such a simple question. He awkwardly cleared his throat.

“Oh, it hasn’t been too bad. How about yourself? Long day?” The apparition of Tachibana smiled, slowly nodding his head as he crossed his long legs in the backseat, always the image of regality.

“Yes, but it was a good one. I just flew in this morning and have been exploring ever since.” Kiryu raised his eyebrows in good humor at the man’s response.

“May I ask what brought you here to Nagasugai?” Tachibana smiled, eyes dropping to his lap as if he were suddenly self-conscious.

“It’s a little silly, but I wanted to see the ice sculptures. I came here all this way for them. That’s probably a bit of a lame answer to your question, though.” Kiryu chanced a glance to the rearview mirror once more, stealing a look at the man in his backseat before re-focusing on the road. He’d never seen Tachibana look so bashful before.

“Not at all. You’ve gotta enjoy the little things in life. We’re only given one, after all.” This time, the man in the backseat seemed to totally disengage from the conversation at hand.

“Hmm… Maybe so…” The silence that followed was nearly unbearable. God, his customer service still needed some major work… Kiryu found himself clearing his throat again, words tumbling out of his mouth like a burst pipe.

“You’re my last customer for the night, you know. Perhaps I could show you around?” Surprisingly, this seemed to work… somewhat… Tachibana met his eyes and asked him to pull over, the expression in his eyes unreadable. Obediently, Kiryu pulled over to the side, putting the car in park before turning back to face him, half-expecting the man to have disappeared into thin air as quickly as he’d appeared. A part of him was relieved to see that he hadn’t. The rest of him had a lot of questions.

“Could you help me bring my luggage up, Driver?” Tachibana asked, turning to exit the vehicle, eyes remaining focused on Kiryu’s face intently. The wintry night air made thick clouds of vapor puff out of Kiryu’s nose, partially obscuring his face in the thick fog that settled heavy above their heads. He popped the trunk, shoes crunching through frost and salt on the asphalt road as he made his way to the back of the cab, hoisting Tachibana’s luggage under one arm before shutting the hood with a quiet click. Now they were standing outside the car in front of a local hotel, about a thousand unspoken questions no doubt reeling in either of their minds. Kiryu took the time to study the man before him.

There was no doubt it was him. His features had more or less stayed the same with the addition of crow’s feet around his eyes, thin laugh lines around the corners of his mouth. Like Kiryu, most of Tachibana’s aging showed in his eyes. He looked… Tired, almost. Tachibana seemed to find his words first, speaking tentatively as if he were afraid of frightening away a deer.

“Would you like to come into my hotel room with me?” It was a blunt question. One that Kiryu could interpret about a thousand different ways, before eventually landing on one. Despite what Tachibana thought, despite whatever feelings may linger from the past, Kiryu couldn’t risk blowing the facade he’d built over the past few months.

“I’m sorry, sir. I’m afraid I don’t know you that well. Something like that would be inappropriate.” This was usually enough to deter most people, but then again, Tachibana wasn’t most people.

“We’re outside of the car now. There are no cameras on you. Besides, it’s been a while since we-”

“24 years…” Kiryu could feel a lump rising in his throat, hurt and anger bubbling up to the surface. He wanted to say something more cruel, to make Tachibana hurt as much as he did. Wanted to be all piss and vinegar for no good reason. He couldn’t bring himself to do it. Tachibana didn’t deserve that vitriol after all he’d been through. Surely there was a good explanation for all this?

“Yes… Kiryu-san, please… There’s so much I want to say.” The effect had been immediate. Pain and guilt flashed in Tachibana’s tired eyes, his brows drawing up in a sorrowful expression. Kiryu felt numb. His mind was reeling. It felt like the brick walls of the alleyway were closing in on him, his chest feeling tight like someone was squeezing the breath out of him. He wanted to claw his eyeballs out, to tear himself out of his flesh and slip down the storm drain with the rest of the street trash. Shakily, he replied,

“Okay. Alright. I just—”

“I know. I’ll explain it all to you. You should really come inside, though. You’re not looking too good.” Kiryu felt like he’d just had ice cold water dumped over his head. Why did Tachibana still care for him even after that display of cruelty? He found himself unable to respond, unable to make his vocal cords work as his brain shut down. Hot tears pricked at his eyes, but he sniffed them away. Not here. Not now.

Tachibana led Kiryu to the elevator after checking in with the receptionist, a younger gentleman who was awkward, but pleasant to have a little small-talk with. He pressed the button for his floor after receiving the keycard, eyes sliding up to steal a glance at the silent man beside him toting his luggage. That once boyish face that was all sharp angles had filled out for the most part. He was no longer baby-faced, for starters, and his hair had definitely gotten more wild. He must not frequent the barber all too often, Tachibana thought. The metal doors of the elevator slid open with a soft ding, its passengers disembarking and heading down the hall, falling into step at one another’s side. Tachibana swiped the card to his room through a keypad on the door lock, the LED display of which turned green to indicate it was unlocked. Pushing the door open and holding it with his foot, Tachibana gestured for Kiryu to enter.

It was nothing spectacular. Definitely above Kiryu’s tax bracket, but it was nothing he hadn’t already seen before. He gingerly set the luggage on the bed, tensing as a hand was briefly placed on his shoulder, squeezing gently in thanks.

“Let me pour you a drink.” Kiryu finally spoke up after a while of being non-verbal.

“Thank you.” He croaked. Tachibana offered him a pitiful smile, causing Kiryu to stare at the floor as he was finding eye contact to be too much sensory input right now.

“I know you’re a whiskey guy yourself, but I only really keep wine around.” A crystal glass was held out towards him, just in his line of sight. Kiryu’s fingers numbly wrapped around the glass stem, his big hands feeling awkward holding something so delicate, as if the thin glass might snap under the barest pressure or slip out between his clumsy fingers. Why was he shaking? Kiryu drained the wine glass in one gulp, grimacing at the taste of red wine. Astringent in his mouth. Bitter, but smooth. A taste he had yet to acquire, himself. Tachibana raised an eyebrow at the desperation with which Kiryu had tossed that back. He sure hoped he didn’t treat expensive whiskey like that.

“So… You’re alive.” Tachibana pursed his lips, perching himself at the foot of the bed, directly across from Kiryu.

“It appears so. Are you angry?” Kiryu set the glass aside and ran a hand through his hair, unsure of how to unravel his feelings.

“I don’t know how to feel right now.” He answered honestly. “I can hardly believe you’re really here. I held you in my arms while the life left your body—” That feeling of his chest being too tight had returned, nearly suffocating him as he continued to spiral. Tachibana cupped Kiryu’s face, thumb stroking across his cheek to wipe up tears he hadn’t known had been falling, too wrapped up in the spiral of anxiety to keep himself pulled together. It seemed this was all he needed to fall apart.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, Kiryu-san.” Tachibana murmured. And he had meant it. Had no reason to lie, after all. Kiryu’s resolve had crumbled. He stepped forward, crowding into Tachibana’s space, and grabbed the man by the lapels, the latter’s eyebrows practically shooting into his hairline out of shock. Their lips crashed together, teeth clicking from the force of it. A hand was wound in the front of Kiryu’s shirt, dragging him down to straddle Tachibana’s lap, Kiryu easily complying with a wince, like he might die if he didn’t get kissed this very second. His desire to be close to the other was nearly overwhelming, an all-consuming flame that started in the pit of his belly and licked up his spine. He hadn’t felt this strongly about anyone in a good while, hadn’t felt the need or desire to be with anyone until just now. Arousal settled heavy in his gut, his heart hammering against his ribcage as he ground against Tachibana’s knee, absentmindedly opening his mouth to the tongue poking at his lower lip.

Their tongues brushed together, Kiryu groaning as arousal shot straight to his crotch, his breathing becoming ragged now as he ground harder into the thigh underneath him. Tachibana’s hand rested on Kiryu’s hip, holding him firmly in place while they kissed, chuckling breathlessly against the other’s lips when he whined impatiently.

“My, my, Kiryu-san… You’re a bit riled up, aren’t you?” Tachibana purred, cruelly snickering against Kiryu’s lips before licking into his mouth once more. The taste of salt soon began to mix with the wine on Kiryu’s tongue, both men’s lips spit-slick and shiny. Tachibana pulled away to wipe the fresh tears tracking down Kiryu’s face, cooing into his neck as he worked on the buttons of his vest. “But I’ve teased you long enough, haven’t I?” Kiryu nodded his head with fervent enthusiasm, which earned him a chuckle and a kiss on the jaw. Articles of clothing were stripped off and forgotten on the floor, ending in them both as naked as the day they were born. Tachibana had even tossed his prosthetic arm to the side.

“You’ve always had such a beautiful body. Like you were chiseled from marble.” He hummed, fingers tracing over the faded scars Kiryu had acquired in the past 20+ years. “Will you lay on the bed for me? I’d like to get a better look at you.” Kiryu was quick to comply, looking expectantly at the other to see what he would do next. “You’ve been through a lot.” This wasn’t a question, but a statement. Kiryu looked the other way. He’d been through a lot, it was true, but he had come out otherwise unscathed compared to others. He could feel his tears threatening to spill over once more. Tonight was the most emotional he’d been in a long time.

Tachibana began to kiss down Kiryu’s belly, hand kneading and squishing as much of the soft flesh as he could. He wasn’t as fit as he used to be; the lack of fighting and his current diet of cheap konbini food had made him a little soft in the gut. He didn’t pay much mind to his fluctuating weight. Couldn’t get himself to care about his well-being that much nowadays as it were. So long as his body could still take his head from room to room, Kiryu didn’t care what he looked like. Tachibana, however, seemed to love it. He bent down to place another kiss to his soft belly before crawling further down Kiryu’s body to nip at his inner thighs, littering his soft skin with lovebites until he was squirming. A hand tangled itself in Tachibana’s long silky locks, petting his head as he continued to tease, soft moans spilling from his pretty lips.

“T-Tachibana please…” Kiryu choked on a sob, throwing his head back against the pillows, his back arching as the lightest touch to his dick felt like a live current zipping down his back. The weight in his belly got heavier as Tachibana pulled the skin back with a smirk, tongue swiping against the exposed head of Kiryu’s cock, making him choke on his spit. “Ah! Please be gentle!” He squeaked, free hand coming up to clap over his mouth. Tachibana hummed, chuckling as he made eye contact (which was tentative on Kiryu’s end).

“You poor thing… You don’t know what you want, do you?” Kiryu squirmed, wiggling his hips to try and entice Tachibana into continuing to eat him out. When this didn’t work, he pouted.

“I just… I want you.” He mumbled, taking his hand away from his mouth so Tachibana could hear him clearly. Tachibana cooed, kissing Kiryu on the thigh before straddling his legs.

“Okay. You can tell me to stop at any time, okay?” He spread himself to expose the glistening head of his cock, hissing as he ground against Kiryu, not expecting the sensation to be as intense as it was. “Kazuma…” He breathed, crowding into the other’s space to place a kiss to the corner of his mouth. Kiryu took the initiative this time, cupping the back of Tachibana’s head to deepen their kiss, tongue pressing forward into his mouth to search for all the spots that made him shiver. His other hand rested on Tachibana’s hip, encouraging him to grind their cocks together, aided by Kiryu’s copious arousal.

The hotel bed began to creak as they began to move faster, the two of them panting into one another’s mouths, too distracted even for kissing. Kiryu had screwed his eyes shut, the thick muscles of his thigh were jumping, his toes curling as he quickly neared his peak.

“Are you close? Nng!— Are you gonna cum, Kazuma?” Tachibana had been trying to keep up his dominant streak, tried to keep that teasing tone, but it was nearly impossible with how good he felt. It had been too long for the both of them. “H-hang on.” He sat back up, slightly adjusting the angle of his hips before leaning back over to kiss Kiryu. “Better?”

“Oh god! T-Tachibana-san! I-I!” Kiryu babbled, legs falling open wider as the new angle made his head spin.

“What is it? You can call me Tetsu, you know? I’m not your boss anymore.” He gently chided. Kiryu was too far gone to notice, though, both of his hands now digging into the meat of Tachibana’s hips hard enough to bruise as he rocketed towards the edge, high-pitched gasps shocked out of him with each pass. His dick pulsed insistently, the weight in his belly settling like a molten rock as his orgasm built up more and more with no sign of release. He was being wound tighter and tighter, wondering when he would finally snap.

“I love you! Iloveyouiloveyouiloveyou!” Kiryu sobbed, head thrown back so far the muscles in his neck were visibly throbbing from the strain. Tachibana’s heart panged, pure adoration in his eyes as he kissed along the other’s jaw.

“I love you too, Kazuma. Always have.” He was nearing his peak as well, gripping Kiryu’s propped up knees to give himself more leverage, sweat dripping from his temple as he chased both of their orgasms. “I can’t hold on any longer. Kazuma…” Tachibana’s eyes screwed shut, mouth hanging open as warmth crashed over his whole body like a wave. Distantly, he could hear Kiryu babbling, writhing under him as he no doubt started to cum as well. He forced his eyes open, taking in the bleary sight of Kiryu stretched out beneath him, his chest heaving, fresh tears spilling down his flushed scarlet cheeks. What a beautiful sight. Tachibana leaned down to kiss him, hand carding gently through his hair.

“Will you stay with me?” Kiryu asked once he had found his voice again. Tachibana nuzzled against Kiryu’s sweaty neck, tongue darting out to trace along his pulse point. Kiryu whimpered, bucking involuntarily from overstimulation. This earned him a chuckle.

“Of course. I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t really plan on leaving Nagasugai anytime soon. I planned to retire here. Now that I know you’re here, I think I’ve made up my mind on staying.” Kiryu’s hand pet up Tachibana’s side, apologetically smoothing over the bruises he’d made.

“I want to see you again.” A smile bloomed across Tachibana’s face and he sat back up to look Kiryu in the eyes.

“I feel the same. Will you let me spoil you again?” Kiryu chuckled nervously, scratching the back of his head.

“I don’t think that’s necessary—”

“I don’t care if it’s necessary. It’s what I want to do. Is that something you’re not comfortable with?” Kiryu shook his head, the tips of his ears starting to turn scarlet.

“It’s not that, it’s just…”

“You don’t like asking for help? Would it help if I called them gifts?” It took him a while to ponder the idea, but Kiryu eventually arrived at an answer, nodding slowly.

“I suppose that would be okay.” This earned him another dazzling smile.

“Good. I’m going to spoil you rotten, Kazuma.”
