Work Text:
Kai sat on a foam mat staring at the toybox before him. The past week he has been on his very “best behavior”. Life was certainly more tolerable even though he cringed at times and often felt so embarrassed he couldn’t move. However as time moved on the humiliation he felt slowly went away as he adjusted. Now, Shigaraki mentioned earlier that he had a reward for him but Kai never anticipated all of this. The toy chest was huge and it was filled to the top with gifts of all kinds. They were all wrapped up nicely and there was a large variety. The chest was any young kid's dream.
“Well? Do you like it?”
Kai but his lip before answering.
“Yes, thank you.”
Shigaraki flushed with joy and hugged Kai from behind.
“I’m so glad you like it, baby. You earned every single toy there.”
Kai just nodded and continued to study the box. Shigaraki took one of his hands and caressed the side of Kai’s face and patted his head just before kissing his cheek.
“Now you can play with everything while I go to a meeting, it’s all for you. You're such a good boy.”
Kai blushed at Shigaraki’s words and closed up his body and Shigaraki walked away, turned on a baby monitor and locked the door behind him. Kai internally begged his body to not need to use the restroom while Shigaraki was gone. He had been stuck in diapers 24/7 since Shigaraki got the idea. Though thankfully he had only been expected to use them when there was nobody to help him at times like this. In addition to the padding he was in a lilac romper and had a soft, white shirt on under with some white ruffled socks. Kai shifted the way he was sitting and struggled to pick up a gift from the box.
Using his teeth he was able to rip the package open and was met with a bunch of blocks with magnets in them. They were multicolored and snapped together easily. Kai was a grown man who was never really fond of toys growing up but something about the lack of fun and entertainment in his life ignited a new found love for them. Kai snapped a couple together before moving onto his next gift. He tore it open and saw a bunch of dolls and a doll house. They were Shigaraki, the other members and him. They were expertly crafted and were made beautifully. They were exact replicas of everyone and Kai seeing himself look so weak in comparison to the others made himself kind of nauseous so he put the doll box away.
Next thing Kai saw were a bunch of puzzles. Some were traditional one’s making beautiful paintings at the end and some were logic based. In middle school Kai was able to solve a rubik's cube in under a minute but now he could barely do the maneuvers and his memory on how to correct it was foggy so he set it to the side as well. Then Kai found lots of board games in addition to a 3DS, Switch and IPad with every game and show he could possibly think of. How Shigaraki expected him to play with these he wasn’t sure but was a little but thankful. After that Kai found a bunch of Cars and various stuffed animals. Some art supplies and toy sets were in the mix as well but at the very bottom of the box were some books and a fancy shogi set.
Kai’s eyes lit up. He remembered when he invited Shigaraki at his base and they played together. Shigaraki set his dirty shoes on his coffee table and was extremely rude. It was crazy thinking about how much Shigaraki had changed from then. Shigaraki listened to him. He needed Kai to like this and that’s why he set it out for him. As for the books, one of Kai's favorite pastimes was reading. Kai prided himself on being intelligent and knowledgeable. Most of the books were fiction but some were not. There were a couple books about biology and even one about various quirk theories. Kai looked around at what he was given and realized one of his plushies was of Mimic. Of course it wasn’t the real him, the resemblance was uncanny and he was given a toy doctor set. Kai could tell Shigaraki put thought into what he had given Kai. Even though some of the gifts were a miss, most of them were things Kai would enjoy.
Kai began to tear up at what Shigaraki did for him. The gifts must have been expensive, especially the dolls and shogi set, the electronics too. The thoughtfulness of getting things that he thought he would like. Kai’s lip wobbled and he let a tear slip. A choked sob came from him and he struggled to keep it in. Pops took him in sure but Kai has never gotten something like this. He had to do so little too. Kai was practically screaming as he let all of his emotions out. He didn’t deserve this. Why did Shigaraki do this for him? Why is everything so frustrating? Why does he feel like he can’t accept this?
Shigaraki busted through the door looking for Kai. His eyes scanned the room until he saw him right where he left him. Why was his baby crying? Did he hate all of the gifts? Was he hurt?
“Kai! Honey what’s wrong?”
Shigaraki lifted his angel up and cradled him in his arms. He tucked Kai’s head into his chest and shushed his cry’s. He could feel snot and tears soak into his shirt but he didn’t care. He just wanted to know what was wrong with his love. This isn’t how he wanted today to go. Kai was being so nice so he wanted to reward him. He didn’t want Kai to be upset. The whimpering man struggled to respond so Shigaraki sat and waited for him to calm down. Finally after a half hour of trying to calm Kai down his sobs became quiet and he stopped shaking.
“Baby, do you mind telling me what’s wrong?”
“…It’s too nice.”
Shigaraki looked at him in confusion before letting out a small giggle.
“Really? That’s it. Baby you deserved it. You have been so good for me.”
“I-“
“No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it. You deserved it. You got your gift. End of story.”
“But I don’t understand! It’s so nice and.”
Shigaraki turned Kai to look at him and he put a finger to his lips.
“Kai. You deserve the whole world. You are at my side, understand? I won the war so I could live life as I want. So I can give my friends everything they could possibly want. Now guess what? You are now one of those people, baby. I want to give you the whole world. I’m your daddy now and you are going to be spoiled rotten with my love.”
