Chapter Text
Getting a pet was the last thing Yoo Joonghyuk had on his mind.
But he hit the last straw when Yoo Mia had stolen their neighbors cat.
He found her and the cat hidden in her closet one morning when he went to get her for breakfast.
Yoo Joonghyuk climbed up his stairs and entered Yoo Mia's room silently, a trick he picked when he kept catching her on her tablet instead of sleeping.
When she wasn't on her bed or at her desk he assumed she was in her closet, a place she liked to be when she was alone.
He opened the door roughly with his hand and it swung open.
"Yoo Mia breakfast is-"
Joonghyuk paused at the sight in front of him.
Yoo Mia was sitting on the carpeted floor with a fat, orange cat in her lap.
He instantly recognized the cat as his neighbors cat.
Yoo Joonghyuk only knew it was his neighbors cat because he always found Yoo Mia outside with it.
Yoo Mia looked up at her brother with fear written all over her face.
"Oppa its not what it looks like..."
Joonghyuk just gaped at her.
"Mia, did you steal the neighbors cat?"
Yoo Mia looked at him guiltily.
"Not really... He was just laying down on the porch and I picked him up and took him inside and...well he didn't seem to mind so its not necessarily stealing." She said stroking the cats fur.
"Mia..." Yoo Joonghyuk muttered.
He knew Mia wanted a pet.
She had always asked him if they could get one but his answer had always been no.
They didn't have enough time to care for a other living creature.
Yoo Joongyuk sighed.
"Mia, your gonna have to give the cat back. You can't keep it hes not yours."
Yoo Mia held the cat tightly.
"But I want to care for something..."
Yoo Joonghyuk thought for a second.
"What about this, we can go to the pet store later and we can get something like a fish, maybe even a hamster, okay?"
Mia looked up at him, her eyes practically glowing.
"Wait really? We can?"
Yoo Joonghyuk leaned down and picked up the fat cat.
"Only if you give the cat back."
It was now about 6pm and Yoo Joonghyuk and Yoo Mia were now in front of their nearby pet store.
The whole car ride their Yoo Mia wouldn't shut up about what kind of pets she wanted.
Joonghyuk kept telling her they wouldn't get anything big but she still wouldn't shut up.
Like he had told her before, he wanted to get a small pet that needed minimal care, most likely a fish of some sort.
He grabbed the door handle of the pet stores door and held it open, letting Yoo Mia in first.
The store was relatively empty, expect for the employee at the cashier.
When they entered, the employee looked up from his phone.
"Welcome to Pets'in Fluff, do you guys need any help?"
Yoo Joonghyuk shook his head.
"Just looking thanks."
The cashier nodded and just resumed what he was doing on his phone.
Joonghyuk turned to Yoo Mia to ask her what she wanted to look at first, but she was just standing there looking around in awe.
"Oppa oppa! Look at that!" She excitedly ran over to a huge fish tank and gawked at all the colorful fish.
Yoo Joonghyuk followed after and looked at them as well.
He looked down at the small sigh that said the type of fish they were.
Fancy Guppy? Huh. Dumb name.
Yoo Joonghyuk left Yoo Mia to look at the fish and went to a other aisle to look around.
He walked to the aisle where the small animals where and looked at some hamsters.
He bent down to to a small cage and peered at it.
Joonghyuk didn't see any thing in there.
As he was about to get up and look at something else, the bedding of the cage started to move and out popped a small little hamster.
It looked at Yoo Joonghyuk with its small beady eyes before it dove back into its bedding and out of sight.
He glanced at the sigh under it.
A dwarf hamster, he might consider getting that for Mia.
He spent a couple minutes looking at other small rodents before he walked over to a other section of the store.
He stepped into the insect aisle and looked at the small little creatures.
Joonghyuk stopped at a particular cage which contained a huge tarantula.
He was mesmerized by the way it scampered around its small cage.
"Fool!"
A loud screech snapped him out of his thoughts and he looked around for the dumb ass who was yelling in the store.
But instead of a person he came face to face with a large, white cockatoo.
It made eye contact with him before it shouted again at him.
"Fool!"
He glared at it.
Who the hell taught this bird that word?
As he had a glaring battle with it, the employee he saw at the cashier came over to him and the bird.
"Sorry about that." The cashier said sheepishly.
"My boss must've had a argument with him, I dont know any other way it would know that word."
Yoo Joonghyuk just kept staring at the bird.
"Does it have a name?"
Joonghyuk doesn't know why he asked the employee that, he didn't even like the big lump of feathers.
"Oh, Kim Dokja."
Huh?
A dumbfounded expression appeared on Joonghyuk's face.
Who in their right mind would name a bird that?
As if knowing what he was thinking, the cashier just gave a small reply.
"Stupid name right? I don't know why my boss named it that."
'Stupid is a understatement.' Joonghyuk thought.
The said Kim Dokja paused suddenly.
And as if knowing what the two of then were thinking, it let out a ear splitting screech.
"BASTARD."
Both Yoo Joonghyuk and the empployee just stood there in shock.
What the hell did that bird just call them?
Before Yoo Joonghyuk had a chance to rip out the birds feathers, Yoo Mia came trotting along to him.
"Oopa! Who just shouted?"
She looked up and saw the bird.
"Oh oppa oppa! Can we get that bird?"
Joonghyuk stared at her.
"No."
A frown appeared on Mia's face.
"Well why not?"
He looked at the bird.
"I don't like it.
The bird made a clicking noise as if humoring him.
"Its really cute though." Mia said pouting.
Joonghyuk looked at her in disbelief.
That thing? Cute? No way.
"We can get another type of pet. Whichever you want."
She shook her head.
"I don't like the other animals here. I like that bird the best."
"Sunfish."
They all turned to look at the bird.
What the hell.
"Mia, are you sure you want that bird? I'm sure there are plenty of other pets you would like more."
"No, I want that bird."
He sighed.
He really didn't want to get that bird.
"Does the bird have a name?" Mia asked excitedly.
"Kim Dokja."
"..."
"...I mean, its unique I guess." She said shrugging.
"Squawk..."
The employee cleared his throat.
"So, are you guys gonna get him?"
Mia looked up at him pleadingly.
"Please oppa?"
He couldn’t say no to her.
”Alright, but you have to take care of it.”
She grinned at the bird.
”Hey, your mine now.” She said smugly.
“Squawk.”
Well it looks like they have a bird now.
“Sunfish bastard.”
Wonderful.
