The Island was the same island their captain had managed to wash up on the last ten or so times. It was a beautiful island and getting more and more beautiful with each trip. They itched to visit but a sailor's (or pirate's) life was on their boat so they settled on sneaking the row boat over to the beach in the late hours of the dark, loading their captain on under threat or thanks, and then making their escape.
Occasionally a villager would spot them and wave and run towards them to talk and they'd turn tail and run faster than they could be caught. Nothing inspired a crew to row faster than the stress of being caught on the land for too long. On the row back to the boat usually the captain slept.
"Alright there, Captain?" The First Officer asked happily as their captain climbed the rope ladder and flumped onto the deck.
There was a moment where none of the crew knew what response they would get, then at once a great big happy expression was aimed at them, the eyes slanted the right way, and they all collectively slipped bandanas, eyepatches, and pointy things in barrels and under bags as if they'd never existed.
"Who wants to go on an adventure?" Gulliver called happily, then looked down at himself, "and what am I wearing?"
"Not a worry, Captain," The First Officer smiled and put his paw on Gulliver’s wing to lead him back to his cabin, "why don't you quickly change and we can get to that adventure."
A little perturbed but not at all uninfluenced Gulliver set out to change. The crew cleaned up quickly ready for the orders.
"Alright there, Captain?" The First Officer asked as was customary and although the captain was in blue he glared as he popped over the banister.
"’bout time you came, my bones werr about to dry out," Gullivarrr snapped, "and why do you all look so clean?" he caught one of them reaching to smear a bit of grime on his face.
"Ah well you see," the First Officer approached his paws behind his back and tail curled in safely, "there was a rainstorm while you were ashore and in the rush to retrieve you we forgot to get more presentable."
Gullivarrr seemed suspicious for a beat and then laughed, "Arr my good crew, I never had any doubts." Subtly the crew got the pointy things and eye patches back out. It was a Gullivarrr day after all.
The call came in early in the day, Pepper's communicator ringing and she jumped her little pink wings clutching it before it could fall overseas. Everyone at once started to turn the boat towards the Island. Pepper hung up with a sigh, "Looks like it's Gullivarrr again," she told them all reaching for her stripiest jacket.
"I like Gullivarrr the most," said one of the hippo twins.
His identical brother disagreed, " Gulliver is the best captain."
The First Made, a hamster with a coat of deep green coat fixed them with a look, "Whoever he wants to be, he is always the best captain."
The crew agreed happily, and they went once more to retrieve him.
