The Unfortunate Three.
“The Unfortunate Three” are The Observants tasked with teaching Danny the basics needed to govern The Infinite Realms.
Their first appearance is a week after Clockwork and he stood in the observation room of Long Now watching a supernova
The sudden appearance of three clothed eyeballs floating above the living room carpet is met in typically Fenton style. Singed carpet and another leg of the coffee table broken.
The three Observants reappear and inform the family that since Danny will ascend the High King of The Infinite Realms,upon his 21 Birthday. This is in accordance with human custom of 21 being deemed officially an adult.
The family is then informed they are all expected to attend “ghost zone school” (another phantom phrase). Frostbite would be instructing the Elder Fentons. Princess Dorethea and themselves would instruct Danny, Jasmine, Sam and Tucker.
The three Observants inform Danny they will return the following afternoon to begin his tuition. They then vanished.
Following the disaster that is the first lesson between Observants and Students. Jazz commented how unfortunate they must be to have Danny as a student. Tucker responded by jokingly calling them “The Unfortunate Three”. The moniker stuck.
By Danny’s nineteenth Birthday a measure of acceptance between Observants and Student has been reached.
He begins mentally referring them as Elder, Middle and Younger. Then privately as respectively, Huey, Dewey and Louie.
Eventually the insulting nature of that referral becomes genuine amusement at their unwavering duty to teach him “how to King.”
The lesson The Unfortunate Three come to teach, their clothing shades of green instead of white. Danny’s subconcious accepts its time to pay attention to their teaching. Not a word of acknowledgement is made. The shift in alligence and acceptance of fate simply allowed.
It does not change the fact Danny is a most reluctant heir to the throne.
