Something in the Closet

Summary:

A babysitter looking after a little girl experiences some unsettling things, along with the older sister being not helpful at all. (This came from a scary dream of mine last night. I didn't mean for this to be my first work on this site, but eh, no biggie.)

Notes:

Fair warning, go easy on me. I haven't written anything seriously since I was in high school. That was almost six years for me now.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

I was babysitting a little girl. Her older sister was also home, but she was kind of a dick.

"C'mon," I told the little girl. "Let's get you to bed."

I walked with her up the stairs and tucked her in.

She said there was something in the closet, but I turned on the light and proved to her there was nothing there. She was still too scared to sleep. She asked me if I could stay with her until she fell asleep, so I did. I sat cross-legged in her bed while she laid with her back against my thigh.

Suddenly, there was a thump. It didn't seem to wake up the little girl, but I carefully got up from the bed to investigate. I slid the closet door to the side and flipped the light switch, but the light didn't turn on. I flipped the light switch a couple more times to be sure. Nope, still not turning on.

I turned to walk out the room, taking careful note of the little girl still being asleep in her bed.

I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the older sister hanging from the ceiling light by a makeshift noose. It was hurriedly tied from a power cord. The older sister also had blood dripping slightly from her forehead and neck.

I bolted back into the little girl's room, only to see her sitting upright in bed. She was staring at the closet with eyes as wide as little Plutos.

"What is it?" I asked. She raised her arm to point at the closet. The doors were now wide open, revealing only darkness inside. I went to flip on the light switch again, still nothing.

Then another thump.

I woke up from the dream at this point, so I really don't know what could've happened from here, but I woke up in a cold sweat. It'd been a while since I've had this intense of a dream...

Notes:

I think I know where part of my dream came from.... Our bathroom light in my apartment stopped working yesterday. Like, the fan comes on, but the light doesn't. So I think that accidentally bled into my dream a little.
