Chapter Text

The train rattled into Kamakura station, spitting Isagi out onto the bustling platform. Sunlight dappled through the ancient trees lining the streets, casting the town in a warm, nostalgic glow.

He was here, back in Sae's hometown, a place he hadn't visited since childhood. Back then, it was a playground for their youthful dreams, a stage where they'd chased victory together. Now, it held a different promise, a whisper of a warm future.

Sae's house, nestled amidst a quiet lane, hadn't changed a bit. The familiar creak of the gate sent a jolt through Isagi, a kaleidoscope of memories flooding his mind. He remembered Sae nearly dying at the traffic lights too lost in Isagi’s laugh, the sting of tears after a particularly brutal practice match, and the quiet comfort of Sae's presence through it all.

The door creaked open before Isagi could ring the bell. Sae stood there, his face etched with a mixture of surprise and a warmth that sent a familiar flutter in Isagi's chest. "Isagi," he breathed, his voice tinged with an eternal fondness.

“You’re here quite early. Wasn’t your flight tomorrow?”

"I… I just wanted to see you," Isagi stammered, his carefully prepared words dissolving into nervous air.

Sae's smile, an increasingly common commodity these days, softened. "Come in," he said, stepping aside to usher Isagi into the cool, familiar interior.

The house smelled of the same comforting blend of incense and Sae's mother's cooking, a delicious scent that triggered a wave of nostalgia. They settled on the tatami mats in the living room, the place where they'd spent countless hours poring over strategy manuals and dreaming of national championships.

The silence hung heavy for a moment. Then, Sae spoke, his voice soft. "Remember that spring, the one before Rin started playing?"

Isagi's heart skipped a beat. How could he forget? It was the spring they'd spent chasing victory, shoulder-to-shoulder. "How could I?" he replied, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

“I remember that I was your role model before Noel Noa.” “Really?” “Yes, I couldn’t forget that.” “Yeah, you were.” “Were?”

Isagi didn’t deign to answer instead just giggled at Sae’s confused look.

They spent the next few hours reminiscing, each memory a brushstroke painting a picture of their shared past. They talked about their first hugs, their tiny secrets, the quiet understanding of each other melted as the sun glided down.

As twilight settled, casting long shadows across the room, Sae turned to Isagi, his eyes filled with a tender softness only reserved for him.

"Isagi," he began, his voice barely a whisper.

"I lost something that spring, something more than just a game."

Isagi knew exactly what Sae was referring to, "But the future is ours to build," Isagi said, his voice firm yet gentle.

"Together."

Sae's breath hitched. In the quiet intimacy of the room, their eyes met, a silent conversation passing between them. Years of unspoken emotions, of longing and unspoken desires, swirled in that shared look.

The past, with all its bittersweet memories, would forever be a part of them. But as Sae leaned in, his lips brushing against Isagi's in a hesitant kiss, a promise bloomed in the air. This kiss, tender and hopeful, was a declaration of a future they would build together, a future where their dreams would intertwine.

As they pulled away, breathless and smiling, Isagi knew that their journey to Kamakura wasn't just a visit to the past – it was a stepping stone to their shared future. The town that had witnessed their childhood dreams now held the promise of a love story waiting to be written, nestled perfectly between the two.
