Work Text:

It was a beautiful day on the Boiling Isles: The sun was on fire and not a single boiling rain cloud in sight. The boiling sea churn and bubbled with a peaceful laziness. Everything was going perfectly and Amity couldn’t help but feel giddy at the stroke of luck the Isles were giving her.

A lot of boiling things on the boiling isles. Go figure.

The purple hair witch was currently making her way to the titular Owl House to take her girlfriend Luz out on their first date. It had been a rough few weeks after the near disaster of Eclipse Lake and Luz seeing her mother for the first time in months. That last outing seemed particularly draining for her human girlfriend so Amity decided it was time to help distract her from the mounting pressure. Titan knows she knew how easy it was to crack under that amount of stress.

“Basket, blanket, demonic possession repellent. Alright Amity you have everything you need to take your girlfriend out on a romantic picnic lunch! Hopefully.”

Amity bit her lip nervously: She’d been planning this moment for days now. When she first came up with the idea she was confident that this was going to be a piece of pixie pie.

Now? Well she currently trying to keep her breathing steady and not panic swing the picnic basket tucked under her arm as the Owl House came into view.

“Hoot!” Hooty the house shrieked at the only volume he knew “Who dares trespass on these hollowed grouoh hi Amity!”

Amity stifled a laugh while Hooty waved his entire body at her in greeting. You know honestly she wasn’t the biggest fan of the house demon at first but Luz told her he’d grow on you. Setting her up with the girl of dreams certainly had won him a few points in her book.

“Hi Hooty!” Amity waved back “Anyone up yet?”

Hooty narrowed his eyes thoughtfully “I don’t know. I’ll need to use my infernal demonic magic to find out. HOOT!”

The house demon swung his door open and elongated as he went searching for any signs of life. There were various surprised shouts of “HOOTY!” and the sound of objects been thrown or dropped. He returned to his post as the door a moment later.

“They are noooooow.” Hooty cooed.

“That’s...great Hooty.”

Hooty beamed with pride, too caught up in his self worth to noticed Amity’s tone.

Amity managed to make it to the house when Eda appeared in the doorway, cup of Apple Blood in one hand and the other rubbing at her exhausted eyes.

“Boots?” She asked curiously “What are you doing here? You’re not selling witchling scout cookies are you?”

“What?”

Eda gestured to the basket she held.

“Oh! No!” Amity rose her hands up defensively “I’m here to take your daughter Luz out on a date. I mean she’s not your daughter! She’s my girlfriend and I’m going to take her out. On a date. With me. Her girlfriend. Whom she is currently dating... I’ve said too much, haven’t I?”

Eda chuckled to herself impishly “Yep. Normally I’d stand here and give you some sassy sarcasm to tease you but I think you suffered enough.”

Amity could feel her cheeks burn a bright red that could be seen from space “Thanks Eda.”

“Now wait here while I go get my ‘daughter’ boots.”

Amity groaned loudly as Eda slipped back into the house with a mischievous wink.

“Wow that was embarrassing.” Hooty chimed in after a moment.

“Thanks Hooty.” Amity muttered with the most deadpan voice she could muster.

“She really thinks she can go out vole eating all night and not be tired in the morning. She’s not a young witch anymore.”

“Hey!” Eda’s voice shouted “I HEARD THAT!”

Hooty huffed “It’s still true!”

Amity gave an awkward smile, grateful for the momentary distraction from her nerves.

Her heart began to race as she heard the excited flurry of footsteps racing down the stairs at full sprint. She took in a deep breath, tensing her body for the usual Luz greeting.

“Amity!” Luz cried out happily as she lunged at her girlfriend, trapping her in a tight hug midair and forcing Amity to catch her “I’m so happy to see you! Wait.”

Luz pulled away, her hazel eyes searching Amity’s golden ones with a hint of concern “Did something happen? Is your mom being a total b...”

“No!” Amity put down the basket and quickly rose a hand to stop Luz from finishing that sentence “No, no. I was just here to see you.”

“Oh.” Luz’s cute face shifted from confusion to utterly joy, her cheeks tinged pink “I happy to see you too. And what’s with the basket? Is it a magic basket?!”

Amity couldn’t help but smile at her girlfriend’s enthusiasm “Hee not a magic basket. Just a normal one. I was thinking, if you want, we could go out and have a picnic. Just me and you. Alone. Together.”

Luz’s tilted her head quizzically “Like a date?”

“No!” Amity shook her head “Yes! Maybe? If you want of course because I wouldn’t want to assume anything! But it’s a nice a day, no boiling rain because you sure know how much that boiling rain boils. I mean obviously it’s boiling it is the Boiling Isles and.” She gave a shy smile “Help?”

Luz giggled in the most adorable way, her cheeks now a full blown bright red “Yes we can go on a date. Wait! Should I change?! I can’t go out on my first date in a hoodie and shorts! Wait right here!”

She turned to rush back inside but Amity manged to grab her hand and pulled her to a stop “It’s okay! I’m in my regular clothes. It’s just a simple date.”

“It’s not just a simple date!” Luz countered “It’s my first date with my totally amazing girlfriend! It has to be perfect!”

Amity squeezed Luz’s hand lovingly “It will be. Because you’re going to be there with me and that’s all I need.”

Amity felt a twinge of panic as Luz’s eyes teared up

“Oh no I made you cry! Ugh stupid Amity I should’ve just….”

She stopped when Luz squeezed her hand back. Luz wiped the tears from her eyes, her smile soft and gentle.

“You are amazing Amity Blight. You know that right?”

Amity felt her cheeks burn again as she scratched the back of her head anxiously “I’m not that amazing.”

Luz gave her hand another squeeze “You are to me.”

Amity opened her mouth to say something when she noticed Eda leaning against the wall, two thumbs up and a wink sent her way.

“Let’s go!” Amity shouted, turning away to stop Luz from seeing her blood pool in her face “Times a wasting!”

She pulled Luz along while grabbing at the basket with her free hand. She huffed for a second as she struggled to lift the basket. It hadn’t been this heavy a second ago right? Maybe it was all the adrenaline she was panicking into her system.

“So.” Luz nudged Amity playfully with a wide smile “An interesting spot for you to take me on our first date Blight.”

Amity giggled nervously “Well I wanted it to be a special for us and what was more special than our first dance?”

Amity had led Luz to their tree, the one the pair created during their fight against Grom. They both still could remember the dance clearly even after everything’s that happened: The beautiful synchronization the two moved with, the effortless grace and trust they gave one another in the moment of battle and the beautiful tree that formed through their combined magic. Its leaves were still that lovely shade of pinkish lavender that inspired Amity’s new hair color.

“I still have the tiara.” Amity admitted after a moment of silence.

“You do!? I mean I do too but I didn’t think you liked me back then.”

Amity bit her lip “I did. A lot actually.”

“Really!?” Luz frowned thoughtfully “What about that person you were scared to ask out?”

Amity fidgeted with her hair anxiously “Well…”

“WAIT! Was it me?!” Luz gestured to herself to make sure she emphasized the point.

“Well…” Amity coughed into her hand “You really made my night when you said you’d go with me.”

Luz slapped herself “I am the densest person on the Boiling Isles.”

Amity slipped her hand into Luz’s once more “I don’t know about that. I know this one girl who might be a little more dense than you. She’s a Blight and you know how they are.”

“Utterly pretty and amazing?” Luz teased while throwing the cutest smile she could muster at her girlfriend.

Amity folded at once.

“Who wants lunch!” She shouted, not really waiting for an answer as she opened the picnic basket.

And found a napping King curled around what was left of the food.

“King?” Luz asked curiously “Was he part of the picnic?”

“No.” Amity gritted her teeth while picking him up “What are you doing in there??”

“Food.” The demon yawned, squirming in the witch’s grip “Warm. Nap.”

King yawned, pawing the air for a moment before leaping into Luz’s arms and curling up for another nap.

“I’m sure it was delicious.” Luz said nervously, trying to figure out the best way to pacify her girlfriend. Her eye was twitching and the last time that happened Amity decided to throw hands at Hooty.

Amity could feel her eye twitch against her will, a sudden rage filling her entire being. She raise a hand to stop Luz and took a deep breath in then out.

It went against her every instinct, the conditioning forcibly instilled by her parents that costed her years of friendship with Willow. If Luz could see the best in anything especially the selfish, self loathing bully Amity used to be...well she could too.

“It’s okay.” Amity spoke up after taking a moment to compose herself.

“You sure? Maybe Eda can come and…”

Amity shook her head, opting to pet the slumbering demon’s head instead. King nuzzled her hand as his leg began scratching at the air.

“He’s your little brother. I know what it’s like to live with siblings.”

King opened his eye and looked at Amity. She nodded in understanding and he replied in kind.

Amity pulled out the remains of their lunch and spread out the blanket underneath the trio.

“Downsies!” King cutely yawned. As Luz put him down King stretched for a moment and turned in a circle before curling up on the blanket.

“Amity…” Luz whispered “That was really sweet of you.”

Amity shrugged casually “You like all of me seems only fair I love all of you.”

One.

Two.

Three.

“Wait!” Amity’s cheeks flared out again “I meant like! LIKE! I mean I do love you but wait no that’s not what I meant. Luz!”

Luz’s blush worsened but that didn’t matter. Feelings of joy overcame the teen and before she realized it, she cupped Amity’s cheeks in her hands.

Amity was turning all kinds of shades of reds and pinkish under Luz’s touched which only worsened when Luz leaned in closer.

Porque llego a mi vida” Luz sang at the top of her lungs El amor de mi vida!”

And with that melodic voice echoing around them for a moment, Luz kissed Amity as softly as she could.

Amity’s ears twitched before what was happening fully sunk in. She closed her eyes, too caught up in the utter bliss of kissing her girlfriend to really function beyond that.

Luz pulled away and Amity leaned forward after her. She sighed in relief before she opened her eyes and once more hazel met gold.

“What did you say??” Amity whispered breathless.

Luz shot her a cheeky smile as she rose to her feet “Eda says you need to play hard to get so if you catch me I’ll tell you!”

“Seriously?!” Amity laughed.

“Yep!”

“Oh you’re on!”

King cracked an eye open, smiling at the two lovebirds chased one another around the tree their love created. He knew, of course, what Luz said. He’d caught her singing it around the house often and he demanded, as her ruler, for her to tell him.

“Oh” Luz scratched her head back, embarrassed about being caught “It’s...nothing.”

“Tell me!” King pouted, putting his hands on his hips for dramatic effect “As your ruler I must know all my subjects secrets! To blackmail them! For cuddles.”

“Okay.” She knelt down “But you promise me you can’t tell anyone. Especially Amity.”

“Why would I tell her? She’s trying to steal my cuddles!”

Luz playfully ruffled his head “Never buddy. They’re lyrics from my favorite song: porque llego a mi vida, El amor de mi vida roughly means for arrives in my life, the love of my life.”

And as King laid there, lazily basking in the sun with a tummy full of yummy food, all he can think is “You have Luz. You have found the love of your life. Her snacks are good so I approve!”

But he still would keep an eye out for Amity trying to steal his hugs.

Luz could kiss her all she wanted but those hugs were for King only!
