Sage blinked, then grinned as if genuinely delighted. "Oh? Have I offended you, dear? How protective. How deliciously protective.”
“I won’t hear more insults,” Pure Vanilla said, firmer. “Not from you.”
Sage hummed, the sound low. “What a devoted lover,” he murmured. “So fierce when cornered. Tell me—” he rose in one liquid movement, floating closer. “Do you like him evil? Evil and mediocre? Is that the flavor that keeps you loyal?”
Pure Vanilla’s brow furrowed. “What are you doing?”
Instead of answering, Sage settled himself right across Pure Vanilla’s lap, the movement as effortless as flipping a page. “Research,” he said, feigning innocence.
“Now humor me. What is it like to love an inferior version of myself?”
