Work Text:

Santa’s workshop is normally filled with roaring noise, of laughter, cheer, and of joy and fun. Today however, the Guardians are telling tales of their pasts of long, long ago, let's listen in, shall we?

Santa just finished telling a story about the chaos of the elves and the yetis, and after the laughing has died down from the other Guardians, he asks “Well, who wants to tell a story next?” His voice is filled with absolute cheer and fun, and Jack pipes in “I guess it's my turn now, right?” Bunnymund and Tooth hum in agreement, and Jack takes a deep breath and starts his story.

“So, in the deep winter of 1851, I needed to visit Albania as the nature spirits there needed some frost to help them hibernate. I fly over there, and I head into the forest.

It’s snowing heavily by then, and I feel another winter spirit far away making a blizzard. This is important to the story later.”

Snickers fill the room for a couple of moments, then Jack goes back to telling his story.

“Anyways, I start to frost the trees that the nature spirits ask me too, when I hear a slithering noise in the snow, I turn around, ready to aim my staff, and my eyes meet with Pitch Blacks eyes.”

The room, originally still having the cheerful and joyous mood drops to a shocked and dark mood that spreads quickly. The only noise is the fire, as the other Guardians straighten up and their faces fill with concern. Jack doesn't notice and continues on with his tale.

“Now back then, a lot of nature spirits that dressed in black didn't like me very much, so I decided to attack first, blowing icicles straight to him. He dodges and we start fighting. Wind is swirling around me, protecting me from the black sand and blowing sharp, jagged pieces of ice at him. The blizzard from before is getting closer, so snow is coming down heavily and I could barely see the attacks despite them being, ya’know pure black. Eventually I start to fly up and dodge as all the spikes are ground-based.”

Sandy is signing rapidly, asking questions and expressing his concern. Jack pauses and answers his questions. He takes a couple of sips of his hot cocoa and continues on.

“So, the wind is sweeping around us rapidly, snow everywhere, drowning the landscape in white. He’s panting and bleeding slightly when I make an extra sharp and long icicle and aim it straight into his heart. It hits, and he goes down and melts into the ground and down. Unfortunately, his last spike of sand hit me straight in my heart.”

Bunnymund growls and Toothiana gasps and covers her mouth and grabs Baby Tooth, who is flying very, very, fast in circles. North has a look of shock and Sandy is about to rush over to Jack, but North stops him. Jack watches them, his heart filled with love and joy, because they care, and that’s all Jack needs to break out of his dark thoughts and finish his story.

“Now, I actually had my memories of my life before this fight, but when the sand hit my heart, the memories started to get corrupted, going from warm and happy, to cold and dark. Now, since I’m the Guardian of Fun, if my core of memories gets corrupted, I get corrupted. So, in order to stop it from happening, my memories were removed so they could be fixed properly, and then I passed out.”

Tooth can no longer stop herself, so she rushes over to give Jack a big hug, and Sandy joins her. Jack accepts the big hugs from the both of them happily and moves so they can sit next to him while he finishes the last part of this tale. Bunny goes and sits next to North, and they watch and listen closely, their hearts full of fear and worry for their frosty friend.

“When I wake up, I’m somehow at my lake. The other winter spirit picked me up with the roaring blizzard and dropped me off at home. Anyways, I look down and the hole is still there, relatively smaller than from the last moments of the fight, but still. My clothes and cloak are ruined so I head into the town, and it’s 1935! I was out for 84 years, but by then hoodies had been invented so I grabbed a navy blue one and added a frost pattern to it. I also snatched a new pair of pants, and went off to do my job, my memories of my past life gone and with a fresh new look.”

Jack finishes his story, and silence stays for a few moments, and then Bunny asks “Can I take a look at the wound mate? I might be able to do something or at least wrap it, so nothing crawls in?”

Jack nods his head at Bunny’s question and says “Sure why not? Nothing else can happen to it, tomorrow, ok?”

Bunny nods and the room falls into a comfortable silence as Tooth and Sandy fall asleep on Jack, and he snorts quietly. He moves them so they’re lying on top of him, pulls up his hood and falls fast asleep as well. Sandy gives them all good, sweet dreams and Bunny and North move the sleeping trio to a big bed and the two join the sleeping cuddle pile and fall asleep fast as well.

The bedroom is filled with the warm feelings of joy, happiness, and familial love as they dream away the night.

Let's leave them be, alright?
