Work Text:

Okayu slid her hands down the cold bottle, gripping it’s neck tightly. The mood she was in wasn’t comparable to something she felt before. But whose fault was that? It all laid on the pair of fluffy ears to her very distant right, guffawing and all. Korone, although generous and lovable, was all too lost in the drink to care at all.

She stood up from the chair, leaving whatever responsibility still in her to add some dollars on the counter, whispering some sort of farewell to her senior Aki. “See you”, Okayu heard Aki’s somehow warm response as she walked towards the bar’s doors, feeling some sort of relief at the fact she wouldn’t have to wait for Korone to sober up or leave that place, she thought about getting home herself, and maybe have something else to drink or eat that won’t slowly eat at her energy like the likes of alcohol would. Tail wafting from right to left, she didn’t get much far from exiting the bar when she heard a voice behind her.

“Hey! Okayu! Wait u—p!” The voice was loud, obnoxiously loud and Okayu could only think of what kind of people would appreciate having a slobbery, mangy poach at their beck and call.

“Well, this time that type of person isn’t me...” She caught herself whispering to herself.

“Hu—h?!” That dog reaches over and almost detonates her own voice box in Okayu’s ears.

“Stop! Stop! You almost made my ears bleed.” She retaliated, making sure to rub them.

She only received a puzzling stare in response as Korone scrutinized her purple ears. Seeming to only stare back at Okayu’s narrowed eyes when her search came empty.

“Leave it to me to forget you don’t know what figure of speech is...”

Korone seemed to have a frown on her face for a split second, before it split into a big laugh just as quickly. “You’re a funny cat, Okayu!” The purple eared girl only had a grimace in response to that. “Oh, yes, I’ve been acting funny this whole night.”, staring at the girl with the yellow jacket who decided to sprint after her, she was not surprised to see Korone only answered with a chuckle. Was it all too hopeless that Korone didn’t get hidden meanings either?

The silence that she had wanted since the whole interaction started to engulf them. Staring at the bright street lights, she only wondered one thing.

“Friend, how did you get here?” She stares at Korone, finally sinking in to those brown eyes that didn’t spare a look at her the whole evening. Some recognition was in her eyes, but her drunken self seemed to interpret the question differently.

“I followed you!” A goofy grin appeared on the girl’s face and Okayu slapped herself with her palm, finding the effort not to cry with all the strength in her sodden mood.

“Right, that must have been it.” Sending her a quick smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, patted her friend’s head. Although that friend was still off in whatever bliss the alcohol seems to give her today, she guessed she didn’t have much will in her heart to be mad at her. As if she read her mind, a sincere smile by Korone is what almost made her heart still. And with whatever manner of responsibility she still had that night, she called a close friend to ask if she could take care of Korone while she walked sullenly, and without some explosive voice box close to her, all the way home.

Notes:

Hello!

I hope I didn’t completely ruin their characters! Hopefully, it’s not totally a mess but I wanted to show a bit of their characters while trying to write about this type of scenario. I hope it still isn’t completely derivative of their original personalities?? I miss Korone and I loved her recent cover! Thank you for reading.
