"You still mean everything to me, but I want to be free."

-I'm A Ruin; Marina and the Diamons

This story begins thousands of years ago.

When the mysterious and enigmatic God of the Sea walked among mortals. His beauty was dazzling and his power over the sea was dangerous. He was as free, as wild and as deadly as the sea. That was his domain.

And no one could command him.

The God of the Sea loved this pirates. They appreciated him. They knew how dangerous he was. And the beautiful god was happy with it. He was loved and feared by them and he, in return, protected them.

Until he arrived.

He came with his imposing male aura and in that life at least, he captivated him.

In those years, Davy Jones was a pirate like any other...before his transformation.

He was handsome, rich, and powerful.

His domain was the East Blue. At that moment, it was the most powerful Blue. The most powerful pirates came out of there. And Davy Jones was the King. He didn't control the Grand Line because he didn't want to, everyone knew that if he wanted, he could get the title of King of the Pirates (because the Sea has no King). That is why he was the King in everything but name. Feared and respected. Hated and loved.

But he fell in love with a man who was like the sea, hard and untamed. The god of the sea, Calypso.

His hair as black as night and totally unruly down to the waist. His lips were a sweetish pink with a small nose and a beautiful smile accompanied by pearly white teeth. His body was as curvy as a mermaid's and his short stature only made him look more desirable next to his round, perky ass.

And his eyes, his beautiful, bright black eyes that reflected all the fire of his personality. Eyes that showed how uncontrollable and rebellious he was. His eyes literally reflected his soul. Eyes with a sparkle and a fire that seemed never to go out. Eyes that sparkled with love every time he saw him.

Because yes, they both fell deeply in love.

However, he ordered Davy to carry out the task of traveling the seas helping the souls that died in the sea to reach the other side, giving him command of the great ship The Siren's Song so that he can visit the dimension between the two worlds. Due to his great love for him, Davy Jones agreed to land for one day every ten years to be with Calypso.

Davy Jones faithfully fulfilled that assignment for the first ten years, but when he came back to look for him ten years later...

...he didn't find him.

Calypso didn't wait for him, for the sea is changeable and unpredictable, just like the the mighty god who ruled over that domain. Calypso went from place to place and didn't stay in one place for long.

The pain, despair, and anger he felt over that betrayal was intense enough to live on, but not strong enough to die.

Filled with anger and unknown to the god, Davy rallied the most powerful pirates and conspired with them to wrest command of the sea from Calypso. Davy showed them how to imprison him in a mortal body and with his human form permanently.

With his help, the pirates deceived the god of the sea, and imprisoned him in his bones. Only the Five Pieces of Calypso can free him from that punishment. This is how Calypso decides to hide and die when it is his time, totally alone and imprisoned, unable to be close to his domain and his beautiful beings.

And now, with his unpredictable nature imprisoned and his death, the pirates saw the seas as safe to travel as they pleased. They stopped respecting the sea that always protected them. They no longer had to fear and although they knew that Calypso would reincarnate with Davy Jones because they were so close, the god would never be released.

On the other hand, revenge didn't make Davy Jones's heart stop hurting.

Davy Jones was quickly inundated with guilt and pain for what he had done. And with his own hands he ripped the heart out of his chest and locked it in the Dead Man's Chest, never to feel love or compassion again. He kept his heart in that chest, which he later hid from the face of the earth just like the Five Pieces of Calypso.

Davy Jones abandoned his job imposed by Calypso and as a consequence took the form of a human amalgam until the day of his death, to reflect the monster that he had become, and anyone who joined his crew, fell in the same curse.

Davy Jones hated him but no more than himself for continuing to miss him, despite not having a heart with which to love him. He loved him enough to rip his heart out of his own chest, but he hated him enough to condemn him to the hell of a mortal body.

Davy Jones lived an empty life, waiting every day for the moment of his death to reincarnate and see Calypso.

A pirate maddened by a man who was not for him.

An indomitable man like the sea, unable to tie himself to someone who wanted to imprison him and his rebellious nature.

A broken heart buried in the sand, souls condemned to wander until the end of their days by a failed love.

Davy Jones died years later with the crew, relieved to know that the time to see the love of his life again was close.

Meanwhile, Calypso walked away from civilization with a pendant matching Davy's that played a melancholy song of his lost love.

Calypso had truly loved him.

And he really wanted to wait for him.

But his wild nature prevented him from being in one place. He always wanted to be on the go. Doing crazy things and enjoy the freedom that the beloved sea of his offered him.

And Calypso wanted Jones to get caught traveling at sea on purpose. Calypso is the sea and he would have been forever tied to him, forever sailing in his essence. They would be, somehow, together forever. But the human mind cannot understand the actions of the gods and the reason behind them. Because by completing the task, Jones would be released. And Calypso wanted to be with him forever.

Even with what he did to him, Calypso had loved Davy Jones with all his heart. That is why he had understood why he had tied him to his mortal body.

But...

...he couldn't forgive him.

Calypso could not forgive that his lover and his beloved pirates, those who respected him and sailed in his domain, have decided to punish him so cruelly.

He was a god.

It hurt him. It was agony not being able to be in his domain. Not being able to sit on the shore and feel all the marine life. Not being able to hear all of his kids. Not being able to become one with the sea. Not being able to hear how his children always swam when they felt his divine presence.

Calypso couldn't forgive him.

His love for that mortal had gradually faded. And he got mad at himself when he could still care for Davy Jones.

And he proved it by singing that sad song that both of them had created.

The punishment and agony of being locked in a mortal body was horrible. He felt like being locked in and not being able to break free. He felt like he was going crazy. It was like having chains. He could move as he wanted, but he felt a weight similar to chains that did not give him freedom in its totality.

Calypso tried to find the five pieces; a chain with a shark tooth, an all-white conch shell, a pink Poseidon mermaid scale, a piece of wood from the Noah, and the bottled blood of a Fishman.

When these five things come together, an incantation must be said, it was a short one, but the feeling of wanting to release him must be true and the five pieces will burn by themselves, Calypso should only smell the smoke once and this will not only release Calypso of his mortal body, but it will release his powers and his divine presence.

Davy Jones, who was considered the King, and the other four Yonkō, each saved a piece and hid it to prevent Calypso from finding them. They never told each other where they were. However, before he died, Davy Jones took the pieces and stored them next to his heart in the Dead Man's Chest.

And the location of that chest was unknown. Even for Calypso himself.

Calypso searched by land and sea. He searched every corner and never found it. The god -now mortal- could not do more than resign himself and live in solitude. Accompanied only by the sad song of the tragic love between a pirate and his sea god.

...Our Love Will Never Die.
