Work Text:
They all knew, it was just a matter of fact situation.
“As you read this, you must know one thing,”
Her hands shook, small whimpers leaving her lip as she held back her sobs. Fat tears rolling down her face.
“By this time, I’m most likely dead,”
No
No, No, No
She can’t be
Jean couldn’t hold on any longer, with a hard crash she fell to her knees letting out a shrieking scream. Gasps came from behind her as Kaeya and Amber finally caught up to her. Frozen in shock at the sight.
There layed their beloved librarian
Her beloved librarian
It can’t be real, it couldn’t possibly be real, She can’t, won’t believe it. She refuses to believe it.
How could she believe the love of her life lay in front of her dead, skin ghost white, cold and unmoving.
She reached, placing her hand over Lisa’s frigid hand, ones that once held hers on cold nights. Ones that would ghost over her cheeks as she cried. Ones that held her on the darkest of nights.
Ones that at once held so much love for her Jean, so much warmth and comfort.
So much life
“But please know…”
Thoughts flooded her mind, too cluttered to have any clear idea of what she could possibly do. Every thought was so loud, screaming, clawing at her head, that she could barely hear the sobs from behind her.
Sobs coming from the Cavalry Captain and Outrider
“That I was not in pain,”
It was an unsettling sight, seeing the once smooth and confident Kaeya on his knees holding Amber's shaking figure. A figure that once used to show so much joy. To see them in such a state.
Jean reached out her hand out to Kaeya hoping to get a grasp of comfort from anything. And for once, his usually icy hands had a soft warmth to them. And as comforting as it should have been, how could she be comforted?
“My time was coming,”
So there they lay, a huddle of sobs and tears, shaking bodies huddled into one. Jean had yet to let go of her hand, she couldn't bare to let her go.
Not yet
“I know I should’ve told you, told you before it was too late, but I couldn’t bare to see your heartbreak,”
When they finally did return it was pitch black outside.
No stars showed out that night, hiding away in the black unloving sky.
No cricket dare chirp on such a day as this one.
“But thank you dear for your goodbye, though you’d never know it’d be our last,”
Their eyes were swollen and puffy from the hours of sobbing, so heavy, filled with grief and sorrow, throats too raw and scratchy from the hours yelling at the world for its cruelty.
How dare it take her love, her light
Jean knew once the time came she would have to announce Lisa’s death, oh how she dreaded it, how she hated it. All she wanted to do was lock her in her office till she joined Lisa in their shared heaven.
But that's not how it quite works is it?
“Thank you for our time together,”
But how could she stay here without her, left without her warmth, her beautiful self, loving smile and all.
“Thank you my love,”
So there she lay in her office, desk light flickering. The moon shining upon the letter she held. Upon Lisa’s hat that laid upon her desk that couldn’t help but stare at.
Till that light flickered out
“For my goodbye kiss”.
