A Not So Great Birthday

Summary:

Birthdays are not really something that Peter looks forward to anymore. They haven’t been for a while now. But that doesn’t stop others from trying to get him to celebrate. And Charles and all his brilliance decided to invite Peter’s human family to the mansion to celebrate. His human family which includes his mother who is terrified of his father, his father who happens to still be at the mansion. This will not end well.

Chapter Text

Another year has now gone by and she isn’t here to see it. He hated that he couldn’t reach her. With how fast he is plus with how well he knew her, It should have been the simplest thing to do. But with how fast he is, he always seems to be just too slow.

And with Jean and the professor letting everyone know that his birthday is coming up soon, he can’t get a single moment of peace. It’s nice to see that yes they care, but no matter how many times he says it. They don’t seem to believe that his birthday is not a fun time for him.

No matter what had happened in the last year, all he can think about is Wanda and his sister Anya. Wanda was his twin they did everything together , Anya they never got to meet. Humans ended up killing her before Wanda and him were born.

Well he was doing a few things around the mansion and the other day he heard the professor wanted to invite his mother and his little sister to the mansion to celebrate his birthday. For anyone else this would be a wonderful surprise, but his biological father is here at the mansion. The biological father that his mother is terrified of. True he has one of the only families that are pretty accepting of his mutation, but that doesn’t change the fact that his mother and father cannot meet. Never mind the fact that his biological father has no idea that he has any more children.

He’s kind of been lying to his mama and he told her that Eric had let the mansion ages ago. If she finds out that he’s been lying he is in so much trouble. Not to mention if his family does show up they going to do the same ritual they’ve done every year, and it’s going to be pretty hard to Not connect the dots if Eric sees the photo of Anja that his mother brings for the ritual.

The ritual isn’t really anything special, it’s really just making sure that those they lost are still a part of the celebration. So if Eric just happens to walk by he will see a picture of Anya right there. So even if he doesn’t recognize his mother he will recognize the picture of the first daughter he lost.

He wishes that he could’ve gotten to know her. Because no matter what that’s his older sister, just because he never got to meet her doesn’t mean she isn’t his big sister. But the biggest thing is Wanda isn’t here anymore. There is no more sharing his birthday or fighting over the last piece of cake that Wanda would always end up giving to him because she she knew his metabolism needed more sugar. Never mind that she wanted some thing every year in return. The last time they shared a birthday she wanted him to go and get her a bouquet of flowers from their home country. He never was sure why, considering they left their home country when they were about two but that is what she wanted that year.

Peter  sighed as he looked at the room he just finished cleaning up. Most of the walls are covered in different band posters and tickets from concerts that he has been too. He pretty lucky in the grand scheme of things, since he’s older than majority of the students; he gets his own room. The only two pictures that doesn’t have to do with music is on his nightstand next to his bed.

One of them was a picture of both his parents and his older sister Anya. That is the only picture that has Erik and Anya in it. Anya died before he was born. If what is mom says is true, she died from the human setting fire to their house to kill his whole family. Erik had saved someone from a runaway car and that night the town burned down the house. And of course, Erik got revenge on them by making sure that not a single one of them was alive to see the sunrise.

The other picture is one of himself and Wanda. They were playing with a dreidel. It was from Hanukkah years ago. Before they had their mutations, back when they both were happy. Before the world knew about mutants. Before Wanda got angry. Before everything. Back then, all they cared about was their family and making sure their mom felt safe. From a very young age they knew that bad people had taken majority of their family. They knew that their mom was scared. They knew that their mom was scared that someone was going to take them away just like they took away their big sister. So they did everything they could to make sure their mother knew they weren’t going anywhere.

It’s almost odd looking at these pictures now. These are members of his family but two of the biggest pieces of it he doesn’t know. While Erik is still around, he doesn’t know that he is his son. He doesn’t know he has another daughter. He just knows about the children he’s lost. He knows it’s hard for parents who lost children. Sometimes his mom just stares off into space and he knows she’s thinking of her. That pain never goes away. Especially around like big holidays or celebrations. That always seems to be when the pain it’s his mom most.

Raven keeps trying to convince him to tell Erik, but when you’re grieving this sort of loss it’s hard to know when it’s the right time to tell someone about this. While everyone knows about his little sister being gone he doesn’t think anyone knows about his big sister. Losing a child once is devastating, but for it to happen the second time. He can’t even imagine. And that is the reality.

That is when the sound of knocking brought his attention out of his mind. He looked over at Raven in the doorway, who apparently had been trying to get his attention for a while now.

“-Peter, are you okay? You have been staring off for a while now.”

“Uh, oh. Yeah I’m fine.”

“Really? Then what have you been thinking about so hard of there?”

“….My family.”

“What about your family?”

“The Professor has got the idea that inviting my mom and little sister here as a surprise.”

“Well that will be nice wouldn’t it?”

“It would be, if Erik wasn’t here as well.”

“Why would that matter?”

He just gave her a look. Was she really asking that question?

“I’m sure it isn’t that bad.”

“…The last time they saw each other was when he had just murdered the entire town after they had tried to kill the whole family in a house fire. My older sister did not make it. Since then my mother has been horribly afraid of my father. It is very likely she will try to murder him, in a kind of a get him before he gets me sort of mentality. That and I lied to her saying he had already left. So yes she will be very very unhappy.

“….Older sister? You have an older sister?”

“Had, Raven. I had an older sister. Humans killed her because my father is different. He saved one of them, and that night they killed my sister. Every time my family really tries to help people one of us and up getting hurt. There is a reason he believes humans can’t be trusted. Because humans have proven it to him over and over again.”
