Work Text:

Jack Walten was not an angry man.

Sure, sometimes he got irritated, annoyed, but those are just human emotions, and if he did get angry he never let his kids see it. Jack never wanted his kids to be afraid of him, to think they were anything but safe and loved in his house.

Right now, all of that was thrown out the window.

Jack Walten was not an angry man, but right now he was pissed the FUCK off.

He asked Felix to pick up his kids and bring them back home from a little school party, a simple goddamn favor. But his kids were supposed to be home 3 hours ago, and Felix won't pick up his fucking phone and tell him where the fuck his kids are.

Jack barely registered the front door opening over him yelling at Felix through his phone where it only ended up in his message box. He didn't register Rosemary rushing Sophie up to her room, or his wife standing next to him with a hand on his shoulder to try to sooth him. All he could feel was pure anger at felix.

Soon though, the yelling faded away to harsh mumbles, and harsh mumbles faded to heavy breathing as he set the phone back down. He finally processed Rosemary's hands on his back and turned to hold her tight in his arms.

"Felix. I asked him to-, to pick up ed and mol-molly, and, fuck, he won't pick up his-his phone and the scho-the schools probably closed and i don't know where our fucking kids are-"

He and Rosemary held onto each other tightly, and he could feel her shaking, thinking of all the worst possible scenarios of what might have happened to Ed and Molly.

Jack snapped his head up when he heard timid footsteps coming down the creaking stairs.

Sophie looked scared, terrified even, and she looked like she was about to cry. It broke Jack's heart.

He pulled away just a bit from Rosemary, who looked behind her to see their oldest child at the bottom of the steps. Jack beckoned her toward them, and Sophie slowly made her way over.

"w-where's Ed n' Molly?" Sophie's fists opened and closed as she looked between her parents.

Jack knelt in front of his daughter before speaking softly, "Uh-, we're-well-, we're trying to figure that out." The tears in Sophie's eyes welled over. "But-but- hey! don't worry, we're gonna figure out where they are, ok?” Jack reached out his hand, pinky finger up. "Pinky promise."

Sophie sniffed and hooked her pinky with Jack's, who quickly pulled her into a firm hug, Rosemary kneeling down to join the two on the floor.

Jack Walten was not an angry man, and it seemed he wasn't a very honest one, either.
