Work Text:

Last week I binge watched all 26 episodes of the anime. When I found out it had been like 14 years since the first season I straight up cried. I felt cheated. I have then spent the past week reading fan fictions of this and thought I could try making my own. While I do have two stories I am currently working on and trying to finish I still found the time to write this and get it out of my head. I hope it doesn’t disappoint. Don’t be shy to tell me how I did.

Disclaimer: I sadly own nothing from this franchise and only wish I did. At least Mori and Kyoya.

She wasn’t stupid. She was far from it. She had emotions. She wasn’t a robot. She just hid them away from everyone except her father, and sometimes even from him when his maturity disappeared. She wasn’t daft. She knew why the host club acted the way they did. Her clueless façade was well crafted over the years to protect her. Her ambitions would never come to fruition if she got romantically involved with them or anyone from Ouran, for now. So she planned. She schemed. She did everything she needed to ensure she would get to where she needed to go. Her peers helped her perfect her mask, they were the heirs and heiresses of the major players in Japan after all, they had been taught since birth.

Getting her debt cleared by that French bitch had been an unexpected gift but one she took full advantage of. It also helped that the jealous idiot helped her secure her spot in Tamaki’s heart with the stunt on the bridge. Without that damned debt hanging over her head like a lead weight she was free to become more independent from the boys. She ensured she was compensated in her second year in host club. It was something she had gotten in writing as well much to the irritation of Kyoya who was also secretly proud by her cunning. She had ensured to set both the Ootori and Suoh patriarchs’ straight and end any thoughts of an engagement to their sons. She was sure to not damage their friendship to each other and for herself and their sons. Her plans were long term after all and maybe one day she would settle down with one of their sons.

She graduated Ouran with honors and with all of her carefully laid out plans still intact. She was close to the entire host club even after graduation. Mori-senpai and Hani-senpai were a little difficult to stay in contact with but she managed it. It also helped that Tamaki insisted on many get togethers over the years. It was difficult to keep the boys at arm’s length when eventually the twins and Tamaki eventually worked up the courage to ask her out. She rejected them kindly and after a period of awkward fumbling and anger they were able to move on with their friendships. However she was sure Kyoya and Takashi both had strong feelings for her even after she kindly rejected them. She made sure to never get their hopes up but keep their friendship strong. A few well set up incidents from time to time ensured everyone stayed devoted to the only female host member.

She had been mugged one day in her third year and had gotten bruised up a bit. It had sent all of the boys into a rage when she walked into the school with her face black and blue. The twins had called everyone and nearly demanded Kyoya send a helicopter to take her straight to the hospital. The Ootori secret police had caught her mugger a few hours later sporting bruises like hers only bigger. Kyoya had offered her to have a bodyguard from then on and she had begrudgingly accepted since she knew they would have simply had someone following her in secret if she refused. He had been very helpful in her last year by keeping her on her schedule and helping with her bags.

Takashi had a super fan with her whenever he had a kendo tournament. She always made sure to attend any matches he had. She was almost always sat next to Mitsukuni (Honey) when she showed up. Although his face was impassive the majority of the time she knew he looked forward to seeing her in the stands. She had been late once and caught him looking for her. His eyes had gleamed for a moment when she appeared. It also helped that he and Honey were very protective of her since she dressed as a female now that she was out of school and she garnered a lot of attention they weren’t used to.

One guy who wouldn’t get the meaning of the word ‘no’ after the matches had harassed her when she had separated from the group. He had gotten bolder each time she brushed him off and ended up with a broken arm when Takashi saw him grab her arm and yank her back. That was the day she had decided on him. She had seen him protective before like when they had been at the resort. But this, this was different. He was different. It felt like his protectiveness had become more. She knew of Tamaki, Kyoya and Hikaru having feelings for her but not Takashi. Hani had put her firmly in the little sister slot all by himself. He loved her and treated her like a sister after graduation. She liked it, she had thought Takashi saw her the same way. She was wrong.

Haruhi had thanked Takashi for rescuing her while looking at him with new eyes. He must have caught the different look since for the first time in her memory he had blushed. It was cute. They began to exchange shy glances and lingering looks for the next few months and by the end of the year they had begun to date. Hani was the only one in the know since he had seen their shared look that day. He approved.

They went public to the rest of the hosts with their relationship by December once they had decided they wanted to become official after a few dates. Predictably the remaining four hosts did not take the news very well. She had seen how crushed her three hopeful suitors had become once they were told Takashi had won her heart over. Kaoru had been sympathetic for his brother’s broken heart.

It took months for things to go back to some semblance of normality after they announced their relationship. Thankfully most of them were either working full time or going to University. Haruhi and Takashi had to squeeze in time for their relationship between their very busy schedules. However both were determined to make things work. Both families were happy with the match especially the Morinozukas’ after Hani expressed his happiness with the relationship. Although the family was no longer in servitude of the Haninozukas’ they still highly valued their opinion and if the next heir blessed the union then they wouldn’t stand in the way.

They decided to finally marry after Haruhi graduated University and sat her bar exam. She wanted to accomplish her goal before she married and Takashi had no problem in waiting for her to do so to make her his wife.
Their wedding had been an event of the year. It had been large and lavish event that all their friends were happy to celebrate. Each gift from the hosts had been extravagant and meaningful to mark their union. Kyoyas’ had made Haruhi cry. It was a Renaissance Vase.

Above all Haruhi could say she was happy with her life. She had chosen well and all of her struggles had not been in vain. She loved her husband and couldn’t wait to live a full life with him and their friends. She hoped they all found their true loves like she did. If their eyes lingered on her from time to time over the years she did not mention it. She simply smiled at them and tried her best to keep them all happy, they were a family after all.
