Work Text:
It’s not that it’s hard or anything. Shen Wei has just never felt the need to learn. He lives close enough to the university and to the SID or anywhere else he needs to go. And if he needs to go anywhere further, Yunlan can drive him, or Shen Wei can teleport.
Which is why this entire exercise seems rather useless.
“No, turn the wheel left—yeah keep going,” Yunlan says, motioning with his hands even though Shen Wei’s craning his neck to look through the rear-view mirror.
Shen Wei shifts the car into drive and starts to turn the wheel to the right, but Yunlan says, “Ah, wait not yet, you need to get closer to the curb.”
“But Yunlan, the last time you said that, I drove on to the curb,” Shen Wei says, and he reminds himself again to be patient. Just because he’s single-handedly capable of teleporting him and Yunlan anywhere in a heartbeat, doesn’t mean that parallel parking is useless. There must be some value to learning this skill.
Shen Wei finally manages to park close to the curb and angle the car parallel to the sidewalk. When he turns to look at Yunlan he’s surprised to see a ridiculously proud look on his face. And Shen Wei smiles at him a bit shyly because he’s not really that good at it yet, but if Yunlan wants him to, Shen Wei will drive him to the edge of the world and back—without any hesitation.
“Shen Wei,” Yunlan says, still smiling. “You parked next to the fire hydrant.”
