To say the past few days have been stressful for Yamato is an understatement. And for someone like him who gets the itch to crack open a cold beer on a good day, it’s only natural that he’d be positively itching to get alcohol in his system with all the emotional pressure he’s been under as of recent.

Summary
On New Year’s Day, Haiji reflects on what it takes to make a dream come true.
It starts with the slightest flutter in Haiji’s chest when their eyes meet. Kakeru looks at him all the time. It didn’t surprise him before. Kakeru was searching for answers in him the same way that everyone else on the team was looking to him. But it’s when everything else is stripped away after crossing the finish line and Haiji knows that he has nothing more to offer – neither ability to run nor promises to enlighten anyone – does he begin to realise that Kakeru is still looking at him.
And that’s when he starts to realise just how much this feeling has nothing to do with the Ekiden and everything to do with Kakeru.
