"Vulnerability… Oh how she hated that word even more now than she ever had. The last few days had been riddled with its looming presence and she had had enough; first her partial confession Valentine's night, then the thankfully interrupted almost-leap into uncharted intimacy, the umpteenth altercation with Xavier and strange exchange with Dulo, Enid’s gift and the bloodsoaked night in the woods, and their uncomfortable conversation thereafter. At least Friday had been relatively uneventful. It hadn’t lasted long enough."
The contest was won, and their relationship was real now. So why did it feel like everything meaningful was just beginning?

“I don’t— I don’t want to talk about it, Percy,” she said.
The words sounded wrong the moment they left her mouth. Percy blinked, and confusion crossed his face first before concern deepened into something softer and more alarmed.
“Since when you don’t want to talk about something with me?”
Something inside her snapped painfully at the question he asked, for reasons she wasn’t quite sure she understood. She was hurting and very irritable and she was on the verge of tears for so, so long now.
“Since it’s your fault!” she snapped, her voice more defeated than loud.

Annabeth’s plan for the evening was simple: survive Sally's movie premiere, avoid thinking too hard about Percy, and absolutely do not cry in formalwear.

Neither one knows that the other is falling madly in love, but 22 hours in a car with a broken radio is the perfect recipe for love confessions.

The quiz is a disaster. Wracking her head for any nuggets of information she can remember from the lecture that week, she can barely piece together what the questions are asking before the time is called.
Her lab partner, on the other hand, is the first to finish, figure moving as smoothly as blades across ice to the front of the room, placing her paper down with a decisive flutter and returning to her seat, hands crossed in front of her as she waits for everyone else to catch up.
It doesn’t annoy Enid, the elegance with which the girl holds herself. It’s more…intrigue, she supposes.
