Summary
“I understand you worry for him. But young Romeo has been at the estate for barely a year. He’ll find his footing, and his people. You must only have faith, sister.”
“Oh, I have faith in spades,” Sophia says, “but is it so bad I wish to give him a little push in the right direction?”
If asked, Sophia would claim there is no child at the Rose Estate she favours over another.
Her heart thinks otherwise, however.

“Master Lea doesn’t know the meaning of ‘going easy on someone’, I’m afraid.” Ever the gentleman, Romeo takes the basket from her and sets it down carefully. The both of them sink down onto the blanket. “Besides, any bruises and sore muscles we suffer are par for the course.”
“Still,” begins Sophia, “if ever she overdoes it in her teaching…”
He chuckles. “Yes, I know: I will sic her sister onto her. Don’t worry, I won’t deprive you of that joy.”
Laughing, Sophia pushes lightly at his shoulder. Romeo’s smile could light up the night sky, so bright is its radiance. The sight of it makes her immeasurably happy—happier than the possibility of being able to tear her sister a new one (which she would never do. Ever. Perish the thought!)

No one has a greater understanding of the soul than an artist. Not because art holds the soul of its subject, as some might suggest, there is no magic in oil and brush, but because being made the subject of a painting bares one's nature to the artist. It is necessary, if one is to have a truly remarkable portrait painted.

Yet, in a bout of selfishness, instead of letting the King move away, the Puppet pulls him back, their bodies pressing even closer, limbs interlocking like puzzle pieces that are finally coming together.
A lie. A beautiful one, at that. Because he knew he was a stranger in a body shaped like King’s former love.
But, maybe, if he pretended that he had not heard those words-- pretended that his heart had not been aching from the whispered name: He could turn this lie into a something true.
(...)
They had looked into the Puppet’s eyes and his entirety: eyeing the little freckles that dotted across his face and skin, and staring at his blue eyes—Yet, the Puppet remained invisible in the King’s gaze that was too busy searching for a ghost that has long been gone, to be noticed.

Romeo turned his head, eyes looking up to meet blue hues of his own; a shiver passing through P when those very eyes seemed to focus right on him for the first time; It took everything in him not to look away and hide, seemingly as if the sun had chosen to glare in his eyes, blinding him with the very thing that he had longed for so long.

As Geppetto takes away his heart, Pinocchio lays there, motionless; and yet his memories linger for a bit. He remembers moments of happiness, moments of kindness, and moments of sadness and pain. All of them shared with someone that wasn’t his father… As he sees Geppetto inserting the artificial organ into something else, and the memories are long and fleeting, he finally utters his final words: “Forgive me, Romeo”.

When he looks up, Venigni approaches the other side of the bench and sets the borrowed stool down almost carelessly. Curious and concerned, P watches as the man…walks right past it and rounds to P’s side in one fluid motion.
And then–
He is being hugged.
“Where on Earth have you been?” Venigni asks, and he would almost call the tone angry, if he had been shouting. If anything, this is an upset murmur. P blinks, momentarily stunned, his arms frozen at his side before hesitantly resting on the other's back.
“One day is a mission,” he laments. “Two days, a trip. Three days, if I may be dramatic, is a quest. But we did not see you, my friend, and you always stop in.”
He pulls away, the gentle grip back on P’s shoulders as Venigni looks him up and down, as if to look for something on him that had torn, or broken. P leans back a little. Venigni's eyebrows pinch together, and a deep frown settles on his face. He looks tired, P notes, and fresh guilt floods him.

For a second, he thinks she must understand his thoughts, because there is growing horror on her face, and her hand flies up to cover her open mouth. Her eyes flick from his chest to his face, back and forth and…
Ah. The blood and oil.
“It’s not mine,” he reassures her quickly.
“‘Not all of it,’” Venigni supplies, his tone kind and his words incredibly unhelpful.
P sighs. “Not all of it.”

“Romeo,” Carlo said softly. Romeo couldn’t help but be entranced by the way Carlo’s eyes met his, a warm brown instead of a piercing blue, to marvel at the fact that the two of them were somehow sitting together in the ruins of the opera house. That they were together at last.

Carlo stares up at the figure. The puppet called P stares back.

“Do you want to lead?” P asks, suddenly feeling shy as he looks up at Romeo from beneath his lashes. Venigni had taught him how, but he wants to offer the role to Romeo first. Mainly because — “You’re taller.”
Romeo’s bitten-off laugh sounds a touch hysterical, but he nods again and offers P his hand nonetheless.

Summary
Urged forward by his determination to prevent a cruel and unfair end for one Lea Florence Monad and those she holds dear, the Tracker arrives at the Rose Estate immediately following the Blood Artist’s demise, rescuing both mentor and apprentice from the steadily encroaching doom that would’ve sought them out otherwise, long before it can arrive to claim them in its talons.
From there, the Tracker hides Lea and Romeo away from the world as it begins to fall apart around them in earnest, giving them the time they need to recover from their respective injuries, heal a number of not so physical wounds too, and eventually readjust to a Krat that will be utterly unfamiliar to what they remember.

And yet seeing her apprentice in the flesh again (or some real-but-not real approximation of him, at least) Lea could palpably identify how different the two of them had actually been. They had the same face, but starkly different eyes; warm earthen soil versus cool limpid sapphire.
But that wasn't even the main difference, not to Lea. No, the main difference was found in that of their expressions; the same face but two entirely different dispositions, and that was enough to make the deviations between them almost astronomical in Lea’s eyes.
The kind stranger had been a soft spoken, passive sort. He showed emotion more through action than through words or anything he would conspicuously show on his face. But that wasn't to say that he didn't emote at all, far from it.
The looks he had revealed to Lea were small and delicate things; wispy smiles and tender glances. They were discreet and soft little moments in time, as unobtrusive and benign as the snowflakes that had drifted diffidently from the sky.
Carlo had not been like that. While the stranger might’ve been like snow, Carlo was like hail.

“Should I cut it?” Romeo’s voice was muffled by Carlo’s chest, his arms wrapped tight around the boy.
