    Teetee didn't move away. He didn't look hurt, or angry, or rejected. He just smiled, slow and devastating, and tipped his head to the side, bringing his face even closer to Por's. His eyes were dark pools, endless and warm.

    That was the surreal part. These flawless smiles were only directed at him, as if he was always telling the funniest joke in the world. It was illogical for Por—his P’Por—to be as fixated on him. Teetee, who was too loud and scruffy with all of his oversized clothes. Who clung to him like a parasite and always depended, always asked, always took from him.

    But the fans believed it. They concocted a narrative where Teetee was as attractive and funny, and would ultimately conquer Por.

    Teetee fought another grimace. He and Por were closer than they could ever know. Their hands found each other in boredom, out of habit. His knuckles had memorized Por’s fingerprint. At night, they would lay together, legs tangled as cobwebs. He had fallen asleep counting Por’s eyelashes. Two hundred and twenty. When he woke up they flapped like great butterflies against his skin. Teetee was cursed to stare, unable to reach out and touch.
