Summary
Harry returns to Hogwarts for his 8th year and tries his best to act like his peers, to act like everything is normal, all while struggling to reconcile the deaths of his friends with his own resurrection. Plagued by nightmares, PTSD, and panic attacks, he fails rather spectacularly at acting anywhere near normal.
Fortunately, Malfoy has returned to Hogwarts as well, and he's somehow managed to fail even more spectacularly than Harry. Except where Harry fails to act normal, Malfoy manages to come across as simply succeeding at being weird. Where Malfoy was once polished, cold, and perfect, he returns to Hogwarts messy, haphazardly dressed, perpetually late, and chronically stoned.
And when Harry finally manages to push everyone else away, Malfoy becomes the one person who makes him feel alive again.

“We should share the blankets,” James says. “We’ll be warmer that way.”
Regulus draws the fabric tighter around his shoulders. “There is no need. I am fine.”
Oh, and James knows that tone all too well. Sirius shares this mulish stubbornness. He knows he could argue himself bluer than Regulus’s lips and not win this argument, so he does not bother to try.
James crosses the small space to where the prince is curled against the cave wall and drops down beside him.
“What do you think you are doing?” Regulus demands in a squeak that’s not very princely.
“Saving your life.”

“Shut up!” Regulus throws a pillow at his head, which Sirius promptly throws back. “You heard him yourself, he thinks I’m adorable! He gave me chocolate. Once I start going to Hogwarts, we can be together.”
Sirius cackles. “Oh Merlin, it’s even worse than I thought.”
or; Regulus' incredibly embarrassing childhood crush on James Potter (which his nine year old self was very vocal about) haunts him for years (because Sirius won't shut the fuck up about it).

Summary
“Can I kiss you, again?"
The words are raspy and weak, and so, so very genuine.
Regulus sits and questions all his choices. While doing his best to turn a blind eye (though he only has the one) to the weird ache in his chest when he takes in the words, and focus more on the matter at hand.
"No," Regulus whispers. He shuffles on top of James, leaning closer. "What are you to do when the emperor passes?"
James' eyes widen, he lurches back. Head pressing further onto the pillows.
Regulus follows, the knife pressing harder into the skin, which stretches and pales under the pressure.
"Mourn him," James says simply.
Regulus raises a brow.
"And after that?"
Or,
