Summary
“Ah.”
“‘Ah’,” Ilya repeats, giving him a look before he looks back to the tidily stacked frozen mouse packages in the freezer and makes a face as a little badly-hidden shudder moves through him. “Why the fuck do you have mice in your freezer, Shane? You are doing serial killer shit now? This is why you have cottage in the middle of nowhere? For serial killer things?”
“It’s for Spaghetti,” Shane says.
Ilya gives him an absolutely horrified look at that and turns a little green, which makes him remember that Spaghetti isn’t just his snake's name.
“Not food!” He rushes to explain. “Not food spaghetti! Snake Spaghetti!”
“What the fuck are you even saying right now,” Ilya says, looking honestly a little concerned that Shane might have something going wrong in his head.
(Distancing himself from almost twenty years of owning a snake, Shane can indeed see why this situation might be a little alarming for someone on the outside looking in.)
(It also clues him in to the fact that maybe it’s not just Spaghetti who should have gotten a little adjustment period.)
(in which i give shane allergies AND a snake)

Summary
Shane likes to think of himself cross-sected and splayed open like a surgical diorama with pins in all the important parts. This is the part that causes the specimen to respond to anger, fear, hurt, love, with tears. This is the part that sometimes feels a little better after throwing up. This is the part that likes anal sex. This is the part that processes social interactions. See how it’s atrophied and dysfunctional?
He likes thinking about that sometimes, too. About every part of him being located somewhere along his genome, or pieced together like plastic organs in a 7th grade biology model all crammed in but only if assembled in the right sequence. Like the things that are wrong with him are traceable to something concrete that he can blame. The shape of his eyes? From his mom. Athleticism? From his dad. Being maybe gay? Probably a mutation. Definitely not supposed to be there.

Summary
A guard dog's submission isn't weakness — it's a whole ecosystem built around one animal's safety. Shane learns the shape of it slowly: which hunger to feed, which to starve, when stillness is the only right shape for his own strength to take. Ilya learns something rarer — that being watched doesn't have to mean being hunted. Then it breaks all at once: something Shane's own teammates were never meant to find finds its way into their locker room anyway, and the appetite that spent a year holding itself in check finds out exactly what it was protecting.

Summary
Yes. I noticed. A pause, then: Also you looked very good out there. Almost made me forget you are my patient.
Former patient, Shane corrected before he could even think twice about it, then cursed his own brain. He gnawed the inside of his cheek raw.
Mmm. Former. Another pause. Shane's mind supplied him a very unhelpful memory of Ilya's humming, felt it resonate deep inside of him, with a need he didn't want to name but could. Are you home?
In which Dr. Rozanov gets intimate with Shane's eyes... and elsewhere.

Summary
"I don't mean to come here and freak you out," Scott said, though he knew there was no avoiding it. He'd been where they were before. It had felt like he was dying, back then. "I just don't want you to think you're the only ones, okay? There's lots of us."
Their eyes snapped to him in unison, startled and intense. Hollander croaked, "What?"
"There's over sixteen hundred guys in the MLH and AHL," he reminded them, because it had felt improbable to him when he first heard until he remembered the sheer size of the hockey world. "There's — well, we don't know how many of us there are, but there's at least seventeen of us that know each other. Plus you two. We watch out for each other."
His eyes enormous, Hollander asked, "There's, what? A secret underground gay hockey network?"
Scott shrugged. "Yeah, basically."
----
Ilya and Shane find their way into The Tennis Club, a network of closeted hockey players that hook up - so long as everyone keeps it casual. Which is no problem! They can do casual, right?
