Natori and Natsume’s growing relationship hits an unexpected snag.
“It wasn’t— It didn’t happen a lot,” Natsume says, which frankly does not reassure Natori one bit. “Most yokai wanted to— Scare me or eat me or— Play a game.” He gives a tight, unhappy laugh. “Sometimes they— Looked inside me. Saw that I was— Sad and lonely.” He finally turns to Natori, giving him a brief, sad smile, quickly replaced by a darker pain.
“Things were okay,” Natsume blatantly lies. “But then, um. Puberty. So.”
