Summary
There was a boom, and a blazing symbol burst into the air above the castle: a phoenix, its outstretched wings painted against the night sky in flames of red, orange, yellow and white, beak raised straight up in a triumphant screech.
The Headmaster swore under his breath.
”Dumbledore,” he gritted out, tightening his grip around Harry even as he drew his long, knobby wand and began moving forward with quick, even strides; Harry reached into his pocket and curled his fingers around his own holly. “Rosmerta, summon the Aurors…and the Knights.”
Or: In his sixth year, Harry goes on a trip with his Headmaster and mentor to a cave by the sea, to retrieve an important artifact. But when they return, they find the castle under attack by their enemies.

”I expect you to treat this bloody borrow-and-beg like your own child, Potter,” he hissed as they made their way back to the castle. Harry—who was cradling the egg, a tiny light-brown thing with a spattering of dark speckles, carefully in his mittened hands—almost dropped it at the slip of Cockney that he hadn’t heard from Riddle since first year. “If it gets turned into an omelet by a Bludger while you’re playing your imbecilic sport, they will never find your body.”
”I’d worry less about me breaking it and more about you keeping it warm,” Harry retorted, holding the egg protectively away from Riddle’s glare—vibes that rancid couldn’t be good for a developing creature. “You couldn’t melt butter in those icy hands of yours, let alone support life.”
… When Harry came to retrieve the egg that evening, there was a toad tied to the top of it.
“RIDDLE!”
Harry and Tom get paired up for the ol’ “take care of an egg together” project for Care of Magical Creatures. Tom tries to put his own Slytherin spin on the assignment, and soon they’re both more invested than they’d anticipated.

It is, Louis realizes. But not from fear. From – “I’m not scared,” he tells Lestat, and means it.
Lestat loses control and can't contain his transformation into his beastly vampiric form. Louis is very much into it.
