“You’re such an idiot,” Stephen said, absolutely aghast at this stranger’s utter idiocy as he focused on the knife wound on the man’s side. “Did you really just step in front of a mugger with a knife?” he asked as he put pressure on the man’s wound again while they waited.
The man laughed, the sound a little muffled behind the fabric from his ripped sleeve that he had pressed to his nose to stem the blood from when, after he’d knocked the knife from the mugger’s hand, he’d ended up punched in the face. “Well, sometimes these things just happen.”
“This did not just happen,” Stephen said, exasperated. “This was a very deliberate choice.”
