    "We thought you had been captured,” Dongju exhales a sigh. “We lost all tracking on you. How did you manage to fix the ship?”

    “I got some help.”

    “Help?” Dongju’s voice, even through the crackling audio, is wary. “One slip up and our whole operation is over. We can’t afford to raise any suspicion. I hope you’re being careful.”

    “I am,” Geonhak says. “It was just some scavenger. He was a nobody.”

    A nobody, or at least Geonhak hopes. But those sharp eyes, that knowing smile, didn’t quite feel like a nobody.

    (When Geonhak crash-lands on a junkyard planet, he needs Seoho's help to get back home. But, as Geonhak discovers, his knowledge is far too valuable to go to waste, and Geonhak tries to convince himself that's the only reason he keeps coming back.)

    Hwanwoong blinked, quickly wiping his round glasses on the driest patch of shirt he could find and putting them back on his nose. The sight he was met with, however, was one he'd never for the life of him expected.

    The creature was beautiful, with a long powerful iridescent tail that faded into the narrow waist of a lithe and yet toned man. His long black hair was flowing in the water and crowned in strings of pearls. His eyes were dark and threatening, and yet ethereal and sad. This creature, this mermaid, was beyond the scope of Hwanwoong's imagination and yet haunted Hwanwoong with his unflinching gaze.

     

    Or; While studying for his master's in marine biology, Hwanwoong is introduced to a mermaid that the scientists call Xion.
