“This is the most stupid thing you’ve ever done!” Hermione yells after Harry. Then she blinks. They’re no longer at Grimmauld Place and, sitting huddled together on a familiar four-poster bed with red hangings, are four teenaged boys, staring avidly at them. Well, this is just brilliant, she thinks. “And you didn’t even get the year right!”

Or: the one in which Harry is done with the war and thinks it’s time he got something he wanted for a change. He misses his godfather, goddammit.

    Summary

Horror strikes him down where he stands, then. He sways, stumbles to put his back to the living room wall. Harry is woozy in disbelief, watching the two words slashed into his chest in livid red just like the scar on his forehead. ‘AVADA KEDAVRA.’

He knows those words, the first he can remember, his earliest memory. It feels like he hasn’t breathed in minutes. When he comes back to the moment, he finds that perhaps he hasn’t. Harry gasps for air like a fish does for water, and doesn’t find it. His back has slid down the wall somehow and his hands grip his head, hair clenched in fists.

Then he realizes he’s actually panting, a ringing in his ears, blocking out whatever it is people are saying to him. Hermione crouches in front of him where he can’t possibly miss her, palms settling gently on his knees.

“Harry,” she’s saying. “Harry, it’s going to be alright.”

    How?

How can it ever possibly be alright again?

    Summary

When Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire, he is livid. He didn't bloody want to join a deadly tournament, but it seems like no one believes him, so he swears a wizarding oath.

Now everyone believes him, but he still isn't excused from the tournament. Almost on the point of wanting to give up on his magic, Death interferes because Death's chosen child can't lose his magic.

''This is why you are going to be perfect.''  Death almost croons, making Harry blush.  ''If you're going with me to train, you will be back in no time. Time travels differently in my realm.''

Harry nods. He suspected something like that. ''Then I will go with you to train. It is only fair. The others are older and have more experience.''

''Harry, no!'' Dumbledore exclaims, but Harry knows it is too late. Death is already grasping his arm, and then everything turns dark around him.

    Summary

With a sound like a giant bubble bursting, Harry vanished – ripping a chunk of the fence and the earth beneath him into a swirling void.

Dudley and his gang froze, staring at the empty space where the other boy had just been – confusion clear across their faces.

    Harry Potter had gotten away.

(Far away, in the humid forests of Albania, a shadow of a man – a mere sliver of soul, the faint spectre of the once-feared Lord Voldemort – felt a violent pull on his magic. He could not resist – could not fight it. In an instant, he was drained, erased, and snuffed out like a candle.

Thus, one prophecy found its end, while another – far away and elsewhere – had only just begun.)

Or: Harry never apparates to the top of the school roof in a feat of accidental magic. Instead, he rips through time and space and – after a few twists and turns – lands squarely in the metaphorical lap of a Dark Lord in his prime, becoming Voldemort’s least favourite plot twist.

Tom, however, eventually comes to appreciate the pint-sized troublemaker he has been saddled with.

“I failed to take Voldemort down and it cost them their lives. - No Remus no. I have this unwarranted, unwanted second chance at life. I am going to destroy the horcruxes. I’m going to make it so the next time he comes he can be killed. No more death, no more loss. Harry deserves more. Better.”
    Or
Regulus had a plan, he was doing his best. He might have lost the plan along the way. He might have lost everyone along the way. This is him trying to make it right,
