Here is context, which arguably makes the situation worse: this has been happening regularly, and passionately, for the past six months, and your best friend— the love of your life, as far as you’re aware of the concept— believes you are still only friends. Friends with benefits, she’d proposed, after a night of drinking. You still can’t think back to that night without feeling like somebody is taking a sledgehammer to your skull, that’s how drunk you both were.

    Here is the most horrible, awful part about that hypothetical: This is Serval Landau’s life, has been since January, and she has only herself to blame for it.
