The last thing he remembers is a beam of light cutting through the dark of the water, and when he comes to with sore limbs and a busted lip and a nasty black eye and holes in his abdomen that cry out every time he so much as shifts his torso, he’d been in the dark for so long that it’s almost hard to open his eyes in the sun.

“Yeah? Cause it looked pretty intentional,” Steve ground out, clearly angry. Clint darted a look up — and yeah, those were the Eyebrows of Righteous Fury — then focused back on the bubbles lazily floating at the top of his mug. One popped and he wished he could disappear with it.
“I didn’t think he’d react like that.”
“What then, pray tell, did you expect to happen?” And oh god, that was Natasha chiming in. Clint shrugged his shoulders miserably.
“Well, I guess I had been hoping he’d kiss me back.”
