Chiron had not once seen a god beg. But in the span of his eternity, he had learned that there would always be something new to bear witness to. He watched, transfixed, as the god spoke. His face was calm, unnervingly so, but in his eyes was a brewing storm. It was calm before the roiling tides swallowed whole cities, a fissure in the earth about to split in half.
The winter solstice was both a time of celebration and trepidation. This year it seemed that Olympus erred on the side of the latter.
He heard a shift in the throne room, a stirring that caught his middle and played with the beating of his heart.
“Brother,” came a soft voice few had hardly listened to, that few had deigned to recognize. “Peace.”

“Powerful how?” He finds himself asking, curious. Everyone keeps talking about Percy Jackson, but people have yet to tell him more than that he’s Annabeth’s boyfriend, missing, and a son of Neptune. No, Poseidon. For some reason, the names swirl in his head, jumbled. He jolts out of his thoughts to Clarisse’s sigh of annoyance.
“What is it with all the hero-worship around here?” She mutters under her breath, and then huffs. “At least it wouldn’t go to his head.” She clears her throat, voice finally rising above a whisper. “Control-the-sea powerful. Create-a-storm powerful. Blow-up-a-toilet powerful. Blow-up-a-volcano powerful. That sort of thing.” She shrugs like she hasn’t dropped bombshell after bombshell, and Jason barely has enough presence of mind left to register that his jaw is hanging open. “Right–”

Summary
Everyone believes Eleven died saving the world.
Everyone except Mike.
Five years later, hope is the one thing he no longer trusts. He saw her fall. He learned to live with her absence. And yet, some part of him refuses to let her go completely, even as he writes her death into fiction, page after page. When the publishing house demands a happier ending for his novel, Mike realizes how little hope he truly has left. He cannot rewrite the story. As punishment -or salvation-, his editor sends him to Iceland, to the place where Mike once promised Eleven they would meet again, where waterfalls crash against stone and the world feels far from Hawkins and everything that broke them.
