“You’re feisty,” Sukuna drawled out, pouring himself a cup of coffee, not giving a damn that she was glaring at him like she wanted him to drop dead. “No wonder the brat likes you.”
Nobara narrowed her eyes. “Yeah, well I don’t like you.”
“Great. Guess we’re even.”
They stare each other down, neither willing to break first, both too stubborn to move. It’s a disaster. It’s oil and water. It’s a match to gasoline.
It’s exactly why they eventually become best friends.
But right now?
Nobara grabbed Yuuji’s mug from the drying rack and poured herself more coffee with more force than necessary and stomped back to the bedroom with a parting shot:
“Tell Megumi I said congratulations on choosing the human equivalent of herpes.”
Sukuna, somehow, was still smiling as the door slammed behind her. “What a fucking bitch.”

Megumi turned, and there he was again—grinning, towel slung around his neck, arms crossed over his broad chest like he hadn’t just spent an hour corralling chaos in the form of six-year-olds. “Kid’s got potential,” Sukuna added, then looked at Megumi. “You might have a pro on your hands one day.”
His throat went dry and Megumi did his best to muster up a smile. “Thanks. That means a lot coming from you.”
The older man shrugged one shoulder, casual. “So, you’ll be back for next practice?”
“We’ll be here,” Megumi said, a little too quickly. Tamaki was still glowing beside him, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “He loved it.”
“Good.” Sukuna’s gaze lingered for a second longer than necessary. “See you then.”
And just as he turned to walk away, Megumi noticed it. That pale strip of skin on Sukuna’s left ring finger.
A tan line. The ghost of a ring.
Oh…
Of course he was married.

How to even start? Where to even begin?
“I am what I am required to be,” Sukuna says slowly. “The wind that lifts a goshawk’s wing in flight. The crush of grass under a fox’s foot.” He leans forward now, all the better to see the boy standing so small and brave before him. “I am sharpened claw and bloodstained fang. The beat of a racing heart and the snap of bone between teeth, the first rush of blood and the final breath.”
God of hunger. God of the hunt.
True god of war, before there were humans to ever wage it.
“Oh,” says the child when Sukuna finally falls silent. His eyes are a clear, brilliant green – the colour of horsetails that grow by the water in spring. “I see. But surely you have a name.” And after that, like this is some inane exchange: “Mine is Megumi.”
