In Azkaban, the prisoners make their own chains. They lock themselves into the loops of their own thoughts. They can probably break the bars if they try, if they weren’t trapped in the dying circuits of their brains. The waves plug the ears of the prisoners. The sea dribbles into their skulls and fills them with pitch-black weight.
Even if you do somehow leave Azkaban in the end, you may hear nothing else again, nothing but water slamming stone.
