Summary
Iron Lung (2026) is a film dedicated to the eternal nature of hope, but Captain Ava is defined by desperation so deep that it becomes a survival instinct necessary to her worldview. When she was younger, Ava watched her entire universe become dark and empty - the Quiet Rapture destroying almost all of humanity and every hospitable planet, leaving an entire society split across a handful of spaceships, with limited resources and no hope for survival. Witnessing the formation of the Consolidation of Iron, and the new stringent world order that accompanied it, would have forced Ava to create an immovable sense of self from a young age. When this view is challenged, she resists - subsequently betraying herself and her perceived duty to humanity by intentionally sacrificing lives in the name of progress - a pattern which is destroyed when she is confronted with the convict Simon, and his unjustifiable desire to survive simply for the sake of life.

Summary
As he turns, the mirror catches his eye. A tired girl, face caked in makeup- lips smudged, eyes darkened, streaks down her cheeks from tears he doesn't remember shedding. Still wet. Recent. He locks eyes with her, then reaches up to pull the wig away and reveal the truth.
I can't stand you, he says. You filthy liar, Grayson.
Dick Grayson is very, very good at pretending. Until he isn't

Summary
He focuses on her voice over the pain and rapidly dwindling oxygen. It sounds like she’s walking as she speaks—he can hear her footsteps. She says he’s earned his freedom. More than that, he’s a hero. She tells him it’s a good day: for humanity, for him. He wants to believe her.
The footsteps stop. A moment of silence, and then—“Why isn’t he out yet?”
OR
Simon gets the data. True her word, Ava pulls him out. It’s not necessarily over after that.

In a miraculous stroke of luck, Ava manages to drag the SM-13 away from the blood eel. With her speed slowed by the weight of the other sub and Simon having gone worryingly quiet, Ava can’t help reflecting on lives lost and names gone undocumented.

Summary
Faulkner needs something—anything—that will soothe or numb the pain from the teeth gnawing at his heart. Faulkner needs someone—anyone—on his side and by his side. He wades through the polluted muddy waters of his mind in a desperate search for anything shining that he can take and pretend he found gold.
He thinks about asking, Can I trust you? He thinks about Sibling Rane looking him in the eyes and saying, With my life.
Faulkner grasps at the shape of a person in his mind and casts them for the required role.
With the Drowning Song sailing above him, the future before him, uncertain as rough murky waters, a revenant of guilt behind his back, and the most devout of his disciples by his side, the soon-to-be High Prophet Faulkner is completely and utterly alone.
This is his life—now that he is a prophet, now that he is loved.
