In the final fight against IT, Richie is the one who gets severely injured instead of Eddie; the Losers defeat IT and manage to bring Richie out, even as Neibolt and the sewers collapse around them. Once at the hospital, Richie gets admitted in for treatment and the Losers are left to wait.

“Wait,” the nurse said, interrupting him. Ben clenched his shaking hand. “Henry Bowers?” Ben and Eddie exchanged a glance. “The man who broke out from that psychiatric hospital last night? He killed four people on the way out,” she said, and Eddie felt a sick relief deep in his chest.
If Bowers killed more people, on top of his father and friends back in ’89, surely Richie would get off the hook for braining him.

Summary
The chapel in the middle of the woods, a mile or so away from the closest village, had been Richie’s haven for the past decade, ever since he took over from the previous priest. There wasn’t really a congregation – a flock for him to tend to – aside from the stragglers that sometimes came to pray. Travelers seeking shelter, woodworkers, hunters. Sometimes, exiles who couldn’t attend the village church: cheaters, thieves, drunks. The people that were shunned by society and weren’t welcomed in public spaces anymore.
Father Richard would never turn them away, though – not when he used to be one of them, before God found him.
