But after a month with no close calls, he’s starting to get impatient. And now he has the perfect opportunity to put it to the test himself. Because for the first time in far too long, he’s going to be Bat free for a bit. After that blowout in the Cave with Bruce, no one is going to question not hearing from him for a while, and all he really needs in a few days to be sure.

“When I got your email,” James looks up at Robbie, casual as he can manage, though it’s a struggle not to smile at the wide-eyed, incredulous look Robbie’s giving him.
“The day before yesterday?”
James gives up trying to suppress his grin. “Yeah.” If the hug in the airport hadn’t been worth thirty hours of air travel, watching the contours of Robbie’s face as he pieces together what James is saying would be.
