Summary
"Would it be okay with you if I came to the New York show?”
Louis did not move. “Sorry,” he said, because it was the first word that arrived. “What?”
Harry’s voice went softer, not embarrassed exactly, but braced. “Your show. Madison Square Garden. I know it’s a big one. And I’m in London now, but I could get to New York. I just thought—” He stopped himself, then tried again. “I’d like to be there. If that’s alright with you.”
Louis did not answer.
Not because he was angry. He was not. Not because he did not want to answer, either. It was just that the sentence seemed to require a different version of him than the one standing there with sweat drying on his back, beer and football noise behind him, his girlfriend a few metres away, his best mate pretending not to listen.
Harry had never come to one of his shows.
Not once.
(Or: after England wins the match against Mexico, Harry Styles calls Louis Tomlinson from London, Louis answers from a backstage corridor in Charlotte, and a football match becomes an excuse for something neither of them quite knows how to name)
