"Can you feel it like that?" Yoshiki asked. "My soul."
Hikaru hummed. "Somewhat. This body is a barrier though. On the other hand, if I do this-" Hikaru said, letting his index finger melt at the tip, as his true form came out, like a tendril.
Yoshiki held his breath, as the tendril snaked its way through the gap in his shirt between two buttons, and came in contact with his skin.
It felt like a lick, almost. Like a drop of cold drink spilled on his chest, except heavier.
It wasn't even that cold. But Yoshiki felt like it was sucking off his body heat.
But it was not unpleasant at all.
"Like this..." Hikaru went on, "I can feel it better. With my insides. And if I seep in through your body like this-"
Yoshiki felt the cold sensation sink deeper into his chest.
"Perfect...."

Hikaru doesn’t get it. He doesn’t get any of it.
Some days, it feels like Yoshiki just wants as much distance between himself and Hikaru as he can get. Other days, it’s like being away from Hikaru would kill him. Hikaru can’t tell what’s gonna set Yoshiki off or not, and it’s not like looking at the memories would help. He got moody like this before, but only when Hikaru tried to talk about girls or Yoshiki leaving one day, and never for as long as he does now.
Is he doing something wrong?
“Hey, Yoshiki?” he calls ahead. “What d’ya reckon we should do for my birthday?”
Or; ‘Hikaru’ celebrates his sixteenth birthday. Hikaru doesn’t.

The radio blares to life when the car first starts, a too-cheerful song playing too loud, before Kurebayashi fumbles it off. After that she doesn't try to turn it back on, or start a conversation. All they have to accompany them is the motion of the car bumping along the road, the flash of streetlights throwing shadows across their faces - and Hikaru, who wants to shrivel up and die.
