The “situationship", he started to call it.
All Scout knew was that Sniper kissed him sometimes— hard, thorough kisses that left him breathless and stupid— and some other times, he sat close enough that their shoulders touched while talking about bullet wounds and the migratory patterns of birds Scout had never heard of.They’d fooled around, sure. Hands under shirts, mouths on necks... The one memorable afternoon in the back of Sniper’s van where Sniper had gotten a hand down the front of Scout's trousers and promptly forgot how his own lungs worked.
But they hadn’t— They hadn’t gone all the way. Not yet, at least.

Summary
Scout had always seen himself as the resilient type – didn’t spend time licking his own wounds unnecessarily, instead focusing his energy on getting even – but he internalised his hurt and let it consume him, which was arguably far, far worse. Other people saw him as dense, too stupid and cocksure to process his emotions or think deeply about anything, but it was more of a coping mechanism than anything else. He wasn’t arrogant. Not entirely. He just couldn’t face the prospect of getting caught out in the open, feeling sorry for himself. Scout had learnt that the hard way, growing up with 7 older brothers who never missed an opportunity to pick on their scrawnier, more susceptible little brother. Maybe he was only becoming attached to Sniper because he saw him as a father figure; maybe he'd simply misconstrued whatever modicum of gratification Sniper offered him as genuine affection.
Scout and Sniper take a 72hr road trip across the New Mexico desert. Unequal parts character study and gratuitous porn. (Ongoing)
