Summary
Mike looked conflicted as his memories bubbled up to the surface. When the party first heard that Will was missing, he’d been in denial. “Will’s okay, he just got lost or something. I’ll find him tonight, and I’ll bring him home, and everything will be fine,” was his daily mantra. Until the quarry.
The memory of that night was all in third person, like he was watching it happen to someone on TV. Seeing Will’s body was incomprehensible, impossible. It was like the Sun had just up and disappeared from the sky.
He was broken out of his thoughts by Joyce’s hand on his shoulder. She squeezed it comfortingly.
Or: That one scene in the trailer where we thought Mike and Joyce would have a heart-to-heart, except they actually do!

Summary
He exhaled slowly, he let the tears prick at his eyes. Tommy knew that bad things happened to people who didn't deserve them. He knew he'd made mistakes, though he knew that nobody ever deserved the kinds of things done to him.
But he couldn't help but wonder, at times like these when a snake of dread curled up snuggly in his gut--
"Am I a bad person?"
He felt so small, surrounded by the mountains in a little meadow of wildflowers, all alone.
"Did I deserve it?"
The faded scars that littered his body like stretch marks told him he did. But the fact they were faded stood out to him in a sheen of softly glowing hope.

Summary
Selfish was a sharpened word, a quick word that left searing pain in its wake. Shouted from the mouth of his best friend, his only friend, it had been all the more cruel. And so, he had tried to cope how he always had. By shouting, and denying, and cracking inappropriately timed jokes, and doing anything to keep the attention away from the fact that he was hurting.
Tommy tried his best to cope, but he wasn’t sure he fooled anybody. He had choked back the lump in his throat as best as he could, and he had ignored the sting in his eyes.
His heart sinking in his chest was of no importance to him.
The look on Tubbo’s face as he was escorted out of his lifelong home didn’t mean a thing.
Freezing nights and torn clothes weren’t enough to break him.
He had fought the urge to cry for years, and he wasn’t going to let it overcome him now.
