What if, instead of being taken in by Master Eiji, Mizu had been found by Fowler's men while living on the streets of Kohama? A child he already knew, whose parents he was very familiar with, who he could mold to his own desires... a useful tool against the Shogunate.
It's all very practical. Abijah never wanted to be a father, but he could play the part, if that's what'll get him what he wants. He knows how to use peoples' needs to his advantage.
That is, until Mizu almost dies in a training accident, and he realizes that he's in deeper than he ever intended to get.
